Tough Juvenile selection ahead for Rayment

Towcester received 14 entries for the Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship - including Saturday's brilliant Arc Kent Plate winner Scooby The Lady.

Nominations for the prestigious £5,000-to-the-winner one-off over 500m on April 12 closed earlier today (Wednesday) and a late flood of entries has left the Northamptonshire track with something of a headache reducing the field to just six runners come the famous race a week on Sunday.

"It was certainly a slow burner, but some publicity this week around the race certainly stirred the pot!" said Towcester racing manager Danny Rayment.

"I think us closing the race some 12 days before the Juvenile might have caught a few people out, but we felt it was necessary given the tweak to conditions this year. It gives us time to confirm the runners, name reserves, and also ensure there's no crossover with our Derby trial stakes."

The Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship will be staged alongside more trial stakes for the Star Sports & Orchestrate Ltd. English Greyhound Derby on April 12 with the race to succeed last year's winner Proper Heiress once again attracting interest from Ireland, as was the case last year with Bockos Diamond, third behind subsequent Greyhound of the Year Proper Heiress and Droopys Plunge, who went on to the win the Star Sports & TRC English Greyhound Derby!

"That was some race and hopefully we can go some way to matching that this year," said Rayment, "and it was good to get the call from Paul Hennessy's kennel yesterday afternoon and them entering Coloursaregreen, their recent Tote Gold Cup winner, alongside a good few big-race winners from here in the UK."

Entries for the Juvenile are August 23 or younger. The GBGB Calendar states that preference may be given to the winners of leading puppy competition winners from July 2025 onwards.

Big-race winners from the UK entered include Romeo Ability, Santas Amigo, Scooby The Lady and Elusivenomore.

The full list of entries for the Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship (April 12): Carrigoon Milo (Jamie Kingsley), Coloursaregreen (Paul Hennessy), Elusivenomore (Jimmy Fenwick), Gaytime Clyde (Graham Holland), Goldcash Warrior (Nathan Hunt), Swords Style (Graham Holland), Kranky Drake (Kevin Hutton), Not So Steady (Craig Morris), Rebel Alaska (Kevin Hutton), Romeo Ability (Patrick Janssens), Salacres Lock Up (Peter Harnden), Santas Amigo (David Mullins), Scooby The Lady (Richard Rees), The Other Chief (Maxine Locke).
