The 2025 Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby field
On Thursday, May 8, the Greyhound Derby will begin. We have gone over every runner that will be taking part in this year's Derby to try to help you with your picks!
Aero Boris - Richie Taberner -Aero Racing Syndicate - Aero Dylan X Cooladerry Jive - Jan 23
Solid performer but could hardly have drawn a tougher heat, in with a pair of 2024 finalists and last year’s PGR Puppy Derby winner. Will take a serious effort to make round two.
Aero Sacundai - Richie Taberner - Mr G Ansley, Mr S Forsdike, Mr R Taberner, Mr M Wooldar - Ballymac Cashout X Beaming Smasher - Feb 22
The track record holder over the 270m distance at this track. He arrives off the back of a fall in a Monmore sprint which is far from the prep connections will have wanted. Dual Cat One finalist over four bends in 2024 but this is much tougher.
Antigua Kestrel - Kevin Hutton - Mr E Freshwater - Droopys Sydney X Ballyverry Sarah - Jun 22
A second round casualty last year when drawing a heat that contained a finalist, semi-finalist and quarter-finalist ahead of him. Should find his way through the early skirmishes once more but others make more appeal for outright glory.
Arthur Cornflake - Patrick Godfrey - Mr P Godfrey - Droopys Sydney X Designer - Jun 22
Missed out on a spot in the third round of the Irish Derby last year after a dead heat. Has run just twice since and not since November. Drawn a very difficult heat.
Arthur Crumpet - Patrick Godfrey - Mr P Godfrey - Droopys Sydney X Designer - Jun 22
Twice a winner at Sheffield in April and has a win at this track in the past. She is the sole wide runner with four railers inside her but her opening round heat with Proper Heiress, Randolph Scotts, Droopys Aladdin and Betgoodwin Ed leaves her with no room for mistakes.
Arthur Job - Patrick Godfrey - Mr P Gorfrey - Coolavanny Hoffa X Designer - Jul 23
A PGR Puppy Derby finalist, he made the semis of the Gymcrack most recently. Unexposed and a strong runner, he is capable of making it through a round or two.
Avongate Venus - Phil Milner - Mr S O’Connor - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Ring - Jan 22
Reigning Empress Stakes champion has not got her head in front in six starts since. She moved well in a recent trial but a first round heat with Bockos Diamond, Wicky Ned and Droopys Extragud makes this a tough task.
Back To Black - Craig Morris - The Getaway Car Boys - Ballymac Bolger X Santas Jet - Aug 22
Consistent type in top grade at Yarmouth. Won a maiden stayers contest at Romford in February and has a four-runner heat so could make the second round.
Baggios Coyote - Frank Bryce - Bryce Racing Club - Ballymac Bolger X Newinn Willow - Oct 22
Clocked a decent time winning a maiden at Swindon in November and trialled well here in February but has a tough enough heat for his first Cat One effort.
Ballinabola Jim - Pat Buckley - Murphy-Ballinabola Syndicate - Good News X Ballinabola Rum - Apr 22
A semi-finalist in the Irish Derby last yer, he warmed up for this with a run to the final of the Shelbourne 600. Made the semis of that last year ahead of a first round exit here.
Ballinabola Joe - Pat Buckley - Mr B Murphy - Ballyhimikin Jet X Ballinabola Ruby - Apr 23
Knocked over in the first round of the Kirby but returned to Limerick on the night of the final to run riot in a supporting contest. Runner-up in the Juvenile Classic at Tralee prior to that and could be a lively one to go through a few rounds.
Ballybough Nutz - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - King Sheeran X Droopys Meteor - Sep 22
Ran a screamer when runner-up in the recent Maiden Derby over this track and distance. Stamina is a concern for a long run through this competition but his early pace will give him a chance of getting though a couple of rounds.
Ballymac Axel - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Ballymac Cooper X Jaytee Pearl - May 23
Got caught up in trouble when exiting the Kirby in the second round. A Northern Puppy Derby finalist, Strikes as the type who could enjoy an extended competition. Not without claims of a deep run.
Ballymac Blanco - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Ballymac Vic X Ballymac Wisdom - May 23
Has not been seen in race action since the semis of the English Puppy Derby in November. Given no help by the draw in one of the toughest first round heats.
Ballymac Kobe - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Ballymac Cashout X Ballymac Merkle - May 23
Runner-up in the English Puppy Derby at this track last year, he also made the decider of the PGR Puppy Derby final in March. Looks overpriced at 100/1 in the ante-post markets.
Ballymac Lucia - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Ballymac Cashout X Ballymac Merkle - May 23
Only just out of puppy status but has already made three Cat One finals. Strong runner was tried over six bends on her most recent start, could pick her way through to the second half of the competition.
Ballymac Pebb - Liam Dowling - Mr L Dowling - Doolin Duke X Ballymac Pebbles - Aug 23
Has only seen action in three sprint contests so far. Trialled well here but is flanked by pace in the opening round so might need some luck early on but is completely unexposed and fits the ‘could be anything’ bill.
Ballymac Rapid - Liam Dowling - Mr L Dowling - Ballymac Best X Ballymac Ariel - Aug 23
A little more experienced than his kennelmate Pebb after five starts at Tralee, producing some solid times. Looked good in his trials here but is another with a tricky first round heat. A repeat of his 4.01 split in his recent trial could get him through and then it’s game on at a monster price.
Ballymac Sorrel - Pat Buckley - Mr C Doyle, Master C Doyle - Ballymac Vic X Ballymac Wisdom - May 23
Made the third round of the Kirby and has some solid runs over an extended four bend trip in Ireland. Tough opening heat drawn outside of Ballymac Rapid but will be running on strongly. Another who can grow into the competition if making it through.
Ballymac Tibet - Liam Dowling - Meinthehalfway Syndicate - Ballymac Best X Ballymac Minton - Aug 23
Won on his first start at both Tralee and Limerick so looks to have a strong chance of doing the same in the opening round here. Where he goes from there is the overriding question, however.
Bank Of Granda - Mattie Richards - Mrs W Richards - Droopys Sydney X Unlikely Babe - May 22
Solid local grader who has a four-runner opening heat. Even that might not be enough to see her progress.
Barefoot On Fire - Paul Hennessy - Mr B Murphy, Mrs K Murphy - Grangeview Ten X Jaytee Ospray - Feb 22
Has only been seen three times since exiting the Irish Laurels in the second round last September. They have all been wins, including in a trial stake here. Has finished in the first three in 22 of his last 24 starts so interesting at big odds in the ante-post market.
Barntick Bear - Patrick Janssens - Mr G Carpenter, Mr P Carpenter, Mr K Dear, Mr K Marling - Droopys Sydney X Barntick Smokey - Apr 22
The current track record holder is a powerful performer. That should be enough to see him into the business end of the competition. The question will be how much his general lack of early boot will be an issue in the later rounds.
Beaming Outlaw - Frank Gray - Tank McHugh Crew - Doolin Duke X Beaming Boomerang - Jul 22
Early gears will always give this local runner half a chance, though he has drawn a tough enough heat which could test him.
Beatties Casino - Kim Billingham-Hine - Mr M Beattie - Ballymac Cashout X Nice As Ice - Jul 23
Youngster has made his way up the grading ladder at Monmore but this looks a tough assignment for him at this stage of his career.
Beatties Razl - Kim Billingham-Hine - Mr M Beattie - Malachi X Pennys Lauren - Nov 22
Won an A4 at Monmore in her most recent start but has a bad draw in a tough heat so it’s hard to give her much hope.
Betgoodwin Ed - Diane Henry - Mr K Boothby, Mr J Head - Droopys Sydney X Beaming Scarlet - Nov 22
Kept some fair company in Ireland but was probably flattered by his 29-dead in the pre-Derby sales. In a tough heat where qualifying would be a strong effort.
Bockos Diamond - Graham Holland - Remember Them Syndicate - Dorotas Wildcat X Seaglass Shadow - Sep 22
The ante-post favourite and reigning Irish Derby champion has run just once since that triumph. He missed the break in the Juvenile but gave the rock-hard fit Proper Heiress plenty to think about to the three-quarter mark. Absolute superstar but Towcester is not the kindest track to wide runners.
Bombay Ben - Cornelius Condon - Patrick Janssens Racing - Broadstrand Bono X change Me - Feb 23
All three wins have come over this track and trip, keeping strong company in his defeats. Will need to step up on recent trial efforts to make a long-term impact in the competition.
Bombay Birch - Paul Young - Mr J Cornish, Mr G Curtis, Mr D Minto, Mr P Young - Broadstrand Bono X Change Me - Feb 23
Won the English Puppy Derby at the track in November, very lightly raced since. Strong over this trip and can grow into the competition if he can make it through a trappy opening heat.
Bombay Pat - Graham Holland - Mr E Buckley, Mr P Muldoon - Pestana X Clear Mountain - Sep 22
A semi-finalist at Shelbourne, this more galloping track has the potential to suit much better despite being a wide seed. Deeply impressive in a trial stake success, looks one of the major contenders for overall glory.
Bombay the Joker - John Mullins - Bombay Racing - Ballymac Bolger - Maceske - Jan 21
A Steel City Cup finalist last year, he dipped under 29 seconds in a win here in the autumn. Has been in good heart of late at Yarmouth and can make it further than he did last year when a first round casualty.
Boylesports Blue - Paul Hennessy - Mr J Boyle - Ballymac Cashout X Hugh Dream - Sep 22
Things didn’t fall his way in the Juvenile here but he was noted putting in strong late work. A 28.91 winner of a trial stake prior to that and a Juvenile Derby finalist at Shelbourne last summer, he has the talent to make a run to the latter stages.
Boylesports Bob - Paul Hennessy - Mr J Boyle, Mr E Murphy - Good News X Roanna Bess- Oct 21
Runner-up to De Lahdedah last year, he then went and made the Irish Derby final for good measure. A very strong runner, he blotted his copybook when dead heating in the opening round of the Easter Cup but the class remains.
Brinkleys Louis - Tom Heilbron - Mr R Brinkley, Mr T Heilbron - Grangeview Ten X Innfield Daisy - Apr 23
A semi-finalist in the Northern Puppy Derby and the Laurels already this year. Has drawn a tricky looking opening heat, however.
Bubbly Charger - Brendan Matthews - The Champagne Club - Ballymac Bolger X Dolce Vita - May 23
A Kirby finalist, his five runs in that competition is all the racing he has had in his career. As such, he is still very much a blank page and demands serious respect.
Burrows Charm - Jason Heath - Mr T Burrows, Mrs E Burrows - Vulturi X Seomra Oreo -Sep 22
A finalist in the recent Maiden Derby, he made the third round at Shelbourne in the Irish Derby last year. Six and a half lengths off Bockos Diamond in his first round heat there, it would be no surprise if he got into the second half of this competition, despite a deep enough heat.
Burrows Eclipse - Jason Heath - Mr T Burrows, Mrs E Burrows - Pat C Sabbath X Highview Jane - May 22
Powerful wide runner made the final of the Hunt Cup over 650m at Oxford. Chased home Romeo Command in a one off here in February and can give connections some fun here.
Cheap Sandwiches - Graham Holland - Bark Wahlberg Syndicate - Burgess Bucks X Hearthill Rosie - Sep 22
Runner-up in the Irish Derby last year, he has shaped well in a pair of trials and a trial stake. In the first three in 21 of his 24 career starts, he is going to be a tough dog to knock out, should go deep in this.
Churchfield Syd - Richard Rees - Mr B Evans - Droopys Sydney X Millbank Jade - Jun 21
A finalist last year, he will have to wait until the very last heat to start his campaign where he will meet another of last year’s finalists. A recent Laurels finalist, he has been an exceptional performer for a long time but the near veteran will likely find a few younger legs too strong.
Clona Curly - Diane Henry - Mr K Boothby - Droopys Sydney X Newinn Cuckoo - Apr 22
Northern Puppy Derby winner last year, he is better known as a stayer these days. Takes on the 2024 winner in his heat which is a tricky starting spot.
Clona Dash - Tom Heilbron - Digital Vapers Syndicate - Ballymac Cashout X Fire Height Maid - Jan 23
Plenty of early pace can stand him in good stead in early rounds. Stamina concerns for longevity in the competition.
Clona Ice - Pat Buckley - Mr K O’Brien - Deerjet Sydney X Ambey Bamby - Oct 23
A wide-margin winner of his race debut at the end of March, not so good in a pair of subsequent runs. Would become the youngest ever winner of the Derby if he were successful.
Cooliogold - Maxine Locke - Mr M Fisher, Mr S Knight, Mr S Locke, Mr R Webber - Laughil Blake X Jays Gold - May 21
Unlucky in the quarter-stage last year when he was badly trodden on. Kept to shorter trips in 2025 so far but a 23.54 at Romford shows what he is still capable of although he is now a veteran.
Crokers Planet - Graham Holland - Mr J Croker - Crokers Samba X Crokers Wish - June 23
Multiple open race winner at Valley takes on a very different quality of opponent here. Now in the care of Graham Holland but this requires a string of career best runs.
Dark Madam - Seamus Cahill - Mr S Cahill, Mrs T Cahill, Mr D Walsh, Mr V Walsh - Ballymac Boger X Lemon Stacey - Apr 23
A Puppy Oaks finalist at this track in December, nursed back from a nasty incident there to make the final of the Brighton Belle. Needs more back against the boys.
Davo You Go - Nathan Hunt - Mr D Birch - Gaytime Hawk X Gaytime Luna - Jul 22
A decent performer at his level but his only wins in the last eight months were an A2 and a D2 at Monmore. This looks tough.
De Lahdedah - Liam Dowling - The Garsuns Syndicate - Lenson Bocko X Ballymac Sarahjo - Oct 21
The defending champion arrives off the back of a pair of below par efforts at Shelbourne. His last two runs before last year were not his peak for either. The competition will benefit as a whole if he goes deep again.
Deerjet Rocket - Tom Heilbron - Mr D Birch - Mr K Glen - Run Happy X Bobsleigh Jet - Aug 23
Is yet to break his duck in six career starts, a semi-finalist in the Gymcrack. Has a workable enough opening heat but needs a big step up on the form in the book so far.
Deliverooo - Tom Heilbron - Mr B Collins - Ballymac Bolger X Dolce Vita - May 23
Twice a Cat One semi-finalist, missing out by a short head on a place in the PGR Puppy Derby decider. Won on Judgement Night but his Towcester efforts to this point have not matched up to his form elsewhere.
Droopys Aladdin - Mike Burton - Severn Racing Club - Serene Ace X Droopys Natalia - Jul 23
Impressive early gears and should still have his best days ahead of him. Is going to need a slice of luck to get out of a first round heat that contains the likes of Proper Heiress and Randolph Scotts.
Droopys Bookem - Tom Heilbron - Mr B Collins, Mr T Heilbron, Mr M Young - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Sweet - Nov 22
Winner of a trial stake on the Juvenile card on his first look at the track, stretching well clear. Kept warm company when trained in Ireland and the more often he gets red - as in his opening round heat - the deeper he will go.
Droopys Extragud - Heather Dimmock - Mr R Bates - King Sheeran X Droopys Meteor - Sep 22
A finalist in the Puppy Classic and Olympic last year, he is a contender for unluckiest dog when it comes to draws. The railer has had some horrible berths in his career and has drawn an opening round heat containing Bockos Diamond, Wicky Ned and Avongate Venus!
Droopys Heiress - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Malachi X Droopys Hunch - Aug 23
Clocked a fair second trial here when last seen but she is yet to get her head in front in four career starts. Should make a nice recruit later in the year but this looks difficult on paper.
Droopys Invent - Seamus Cahill - Mr T Camsell, Mr D Lawrence, Mr L Pleace, Mr D Teevan - Droopys Sydney - Droopys Miriam - May 23
Missed out by a head in a slot in the PGR Puppy Derby final and then ran into a potential monster in Headford Asher in the Hove Puppy Cup decider. A powerful type could outrun his ante-post odds.
Droopys Job - Robert Hall - Shortwood Boys Syndicate - Serene Ace X Droopys Berry - Apr 23
Strong runner has a couple of open race successes at this track. Three lengths behind Slick Sentinel on his most recent visit, will need to up his game to go deep.
Droopys Maximus - Richie Taberner - Aero Racing Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Sweet - Nov 22
Two runs at Monmore are head and shoulders above his two at Towcester since arriving from Ireland. If he could bring his Monmore form over, he can make it through at least a couple of rounds.
Droopys Metaphor - Craig Morris - Mr C Morris, Mr A Wright - Dromana Bucko X Droopys Zero - Jun 22
Has not seen race action since the second round of the Irish Derby. Kept warm company in Ireland and led up March On Freddie that day. Showed quirks at the same time, however, so although he has speed to burn, there is a nagging doubt there.
Droopys Pivotel - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Dromana Bucko X Droopys Berry - Aug 22
A semi-finalist last year, he missed out on a spot in the final by a length after his worst sectional of the competition. Has made the final of the Olympic and Winter Derby since and can give connections another good run to the latter stages.
Droopys Plunge - Patrick Janssens - The Three Tall Men Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Sweet - Nov 22
Superb talent when he gets things right, something that has not happened in competitions so far. Runner-up in the Juvenile showed the level of class he can produce but the worry is that there will be a mistake thrown in at the worst possible time.
Droopys Prefect - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - King Sheeran X Droopys Meteor - Sep 22
A triple Cat One semi-finalist in the last six plus months, he has a lovely make up in his opening round heat. Capable of making his way through to at least the middle rounds.
Droopys Suprstar - Mike Burton - Severn Racing Club - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Isabella - Sep 22
A Winter Derby finalist in February, he broke the 645m track record at Valley in April. Sadly for connections, he has been drawn in a very difficult heat.
Droopys Trade - Patrick Janssens - The Three Tall Men Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Alice - Jul 23
Recent Gymcrack finalist produced his worse sectional of the competition in the final where he was the beaten favourite. Didn’t set the world alight in his first 500m effort at Towcester but that should set him up for a fair run into this competition.
Druids All Go - Craig Morris - Mr C Morris, Mr C Oxborough, Mr A Wright, Mr J Wright - Droopys Sydney X Druids Diana - Sep 21
Made the third round of the Derby in 2024 and then the decider of the Derby Plate. This track suits him well but he has a tricky draw in the opening round against the defending champion.
Dynamic Force - Paul Hennessy - Mr B Cocoman, Mr I Cunningham - Good News X Portumna Marina - Aug 22
A Sprint Cup semi-finalist at Dundalk last summer, he made the third round of the Irish Derby. No match for Ballymac Kobe in a trial stake so if going to need his trapping boots to go deep.
Emmybell Boy - Shaun Gresham - Mr G Williams - Grangeview Ten X Jaytee Ospray - Feb 22
Experienced tracker made the second round last year. Took the scalp of Head Count in a maiden stayers cat two just after Christmas but has not recaptured that level of form so far in 2025.
Fabulous Aria - Patrick Janssens - Mr D Firmager - Magical Bale X Fabulous Skylar - Jan 23
A 28.89 trial stake winner but she could have done with a kinder draw for her heat with March On Freddie and Kirby runner-up Sole Mio in with her. Has excellent early gears but is going to need them.
Fabulous Sonique - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Magical Bale X Fabulous Pearl - Jul 21
Metronomic over 575m at Romford but she also boasts some solid form here. Has drawn a tough heat and others make more appeal for outright honours.
Farneys Wexford - Kevin Boon - Mr K Boon - Malachi X Roanna Bess - Mar 23
A Maiden Derby semi-finalist has only had five starts in his career. Is yet to get his head in front so it might be a tricky competition to try and break that duck.
Faypoint Harvey - Graham Holland - Mrs P Flanagan - Droopys Sydney X Roaming Shari - Mar 22
Only made the second round of both this and the Irish Derby last year but made the decider of the Irish Derby Plate and then won at the Winter Festival. Capable of making his presence felt but others are stronger outright contenders.
Faypoint Suzie - Graham Holland - Mrs P Flanagan - Out Of Range X Jasons Perl - Mar 21
A Derby Plate finalist here last year after exiting in the second round. Has only run twice in the last nine plus months so arrives with a few questions to answer.
Flashing Fender - Craig Morris - Mr A Wright, Mrs A Wright - Ballymac Best X Ballymac Ariel - Aug 23
Yet to get his head in front in five starts in Ireland but those did include getting to the final of the Juvenile Classic at Tralee. Showed plenty of pace in three trials at Towcester but he has a horrible first round heat.
Fruity Tuxedo - Dean Blackbird - Mr S Miller - Ballymac Bolger X Lovee Dovee - Feb 23
Sunderland raider has a tough old heat in with the defending champion. This looks too tough for him.
Gary The Arb - Belinda Green - Mr G Smith - Dorotas Wildcat X Droopys Charm - Jul 22
Winner of a competition on final night last year after exiting in the second round. He has not been seen since finishing runner-up to Proper Heiress in the Winter Derby at Monmore so will arrive fresh. A deep run would be no surprise.
Gingers Rubin - Patrick Browne - Mr A Lucas - Droopys Sydney X Dolce Vita - Jul 22
Solid Hove performer has not got his head in front for a while. Tricky enough heat so this looks tough enough.
Gingers Shelby - Patrick Browne - Mr A Lucas - Good News X Magical Gem - Jun 22
Behind his kennelmate in a recent trial but has at least drawn an softer heat than Rubin has. Needs a career best to go much further than that though.
Glory Lord - Craig Morris - Mr C Morris - Droopys Sydney X Glory Lady - Jul 22
Signed off on his time in Ireland with a slick 28.23 success at Shelbourne. Moved well in a pair of trials at Towcester and could be the type to make it through a few rounds here.
Golden Palace - Michelle Brown - Mr C Donovan, Mr A Walker - Pestana X Golden Mist - Dec 21
Better known for his exploits over further, a finalist in the Champion Stakes last year and then doing enough to hold off his rivals in the Queen Mother Cup at Sheffield. Strong stayer but will need some luck to make much progress.
Gun Slinger - Michelle Brown - MWD Partnership - Droopys Sydney X Coolavanny Tammy - Aug 22
A winner on his first attempt for his new trainer in a trial stake on Juvenile afternoon. Is drawn to the immediate right of the defending champion in his heat so is going to need a serious performance to make much progress.
Headford Asher - Maxine Locke - JR Racing Syndicate - Ballymac Bolger X Headford Honey - Aug 23
Looked a potential superstar when going unbeaten through the Hove Puppy Cup. His time in the final was only two and a half lengths off the track record. Lacks experience but is an incredibly exciting talent who could make a serious impact.
Hello Diego - Paul Hennessy - Mr P Hynes - Jaytee Yankee X Darver Bridie - Oct 22
Winner of the Maiden Derby when he came home too powerfully for Ballybough Nutz. Is a strong stayer and that will help him for all that he has one of the trickiest first round heats.
Heres Ringo - Glenn Hockings - Mr G Hockings - Ballymac Bolger X Lemon Stacey - Apr 23
Nine-race maiden has shown plenty of promise in trials, just a length behind Cooliogold last month, but is yet to show that in races.
Holding Harry - Richie Taberner - Mr G Shepherd - Droopys Addition X Nah Then Bella - Sep 22
A wide-margin winner in a Monmore A2 in his most recent action. A first round heat with Ballymac Lucia and Romeo Empire gives him a tough starting point.
Hollyhill Pad - Tom Heilbron - Link Kennels Syndicate - Burgess Bucks X Hollyhill Fifi - Apr 23
Closed out his efforts in Ireland at Cork with a flying 28.09. Made the semis of the Maiden Derby, winning his heat. Needs to be trapping better to get seriously involved.
Hopes Ompaloompa - Esther Driver - Mr P Sallis - Droopys Sydney X Annual Parlena - Aug 22
Has not finished worse than second in his last nine starts. This is naturally a very different level of competition but has one of the easier first round heats and appreciates a galloping track.
Hurry Up Brendan - John Lambe - Mrs V Lambe - Magical Bale - Congress Sparkle - Jun 22
Boasts an exceptional record in top grade contests at Perry Barr. Has an open race win at Nottingham but in general has found open racing difficult.
Icemans Girl - Nathan Hunt - Mr G Price - Broadstrand Bono X Good Diva - Jul 22
Runner-up in both the Empress Stakes and the Oaks last year, she has not been seen in race action since January. Her trials have been below her usual level but it would not be a surprise to see her build through the rounds if she can make it out of a tricky enough opening heat.
Indian Bonnie - Maxine Locke - The Slick Racing Club - Whitewood Lad X Indian Prayer - Nov 22
Another of the Maiden Derby finalists having a crack having kept good company since arriving at Bonville. Needs to improve to have a say in the latter stages but that’s far from impossible.
Jaytee Craze - Paul Hennessy - Mr L Craze, Mr J Turner - Ballymac Cashout X Ballymac Minton - Nov 21
A Maiden Derby finalist last year before exiting this competition in the second round. Has trialled better this year than last but might find it hard to pick up the quicker dogs in the later rounds.
Keefill Goose - Phil Milner - Miss K Cunningham - Droopys Addition X Tarsna Atalanta - Jul 22
Has been flying around Doncaster so far this year and chased home Cheap Sandwiches in a recent trial stake. Was runner-up in the Champion Stake on Derby Final night last year, an interesting outsider.
Keefill Maverick - Phil Milner - Miss K Cunningham - Droopys Addition X Tarsna Atalanta - Jul 22
All action once his paws hit the sand, his early gears proving a very helpful tool. Has trialled well ahead of the Derby but he has been given a decidedly dicey opening round heat where most will fancy their chance of hitting the middle rounds at least.
Keeperhill Ace - Mattie Richards - Mrs W Richards - Skywalker Canny X Kathleens Patch - Apr 22
A rock-solid local grader with some decent times on his card but is going to find this a very different calibre of opponent.
Kevins Rocket - Seamus Cahill - Mr T Gracie, Mr J Kay - Broadstrand Bono X Conquering Queen - Sep 22
Very inconsistent from the boxes in his trial stakes. Is going to need more of the 3.99 sectionals and none of the 4.24 if he is to make progress through the rounds.
Keylogues Runner - Kamie Kingsley - Mr C Boles, Mr P Mumford, Mr K Wright - Dorotas Wildcat X Assarula Runner - Sep 22
No disgrace in finding Romeo Empire just too strong late on in a trial stake. A 4.11 split and a 29.10 finishing time should read well for the first round for all that he has Bombay Pat in his heat with him.
Killieford Goram - Dean Blackbird - Northern Likely Lads - Vulturi X Jamaica Joy - Jun 21
A finalist in the Grand Prix at Sunderland recently where he ran a huge race to take them along for a good while. Could hardly have drawn a tougher opening task, however.
Kilmore Dancer - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Ballymac Bolger X Kilmore Diamond - Nov 22
A Blue Riband finalist over this track and distance earlier in the year but he showed his quirks next time up at Monmore. Has the talent to go deep but others are more straightforward and a fall on his last start is not an ideal prep.
Le Pur Sang - Paul Young - Mr P Young - Ballyhimikin Jet X Paper Moon - Jun 23
Plenty of early pace on offer here and has very few miles on the clock. This track would be the question mark in terms of stamina as the rounds progress.
Lennies Desire - Paul Hennessy - Mr L Craze - Signet Ace X Free From Desire - Dec 22
Made the Maiden Derby final where he was seen moving off badly from trap one. Now has a wide tag on him which should suit better. Needs to lay up better to the second bend to be able to produce his strong finish to best effect.
Long Fellow - Matt Dartnall - Horse And Hound Six Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Away Shelly - Jan 22
Pall Mall runner-up and a Birmingham Cup finalist last year, he also made the decider in the Scurry. Plenty of pace to the third bend here but will do well to hold off the cavalry as the competition progresses.
Longacres Romeo - Dean Blackbird - Mr P Doocey, Mr A Hingley - Ballymac Cashout X Fabulous Amalfi - Aug 22
Decent performer on the northern circuit but generally over a little further than this. Hard to see him getting seriously involved in the competition overall.
Loxleys Troy - Jason Gray - Robin Hood Racing - Explosive Boy X College Enable - Feb 23
A top grade winner at Nottingham in March but has been drawn in a hard heat. Needs to step up plenty on his first trial here.
Maireads Prince - Shaun Gresham - Mr G Ashe, Mr S Gresham, Mr G Williams - Droopys Sydney X Clona Sky - Jun 22
A semi-finalist in the Easter Cup on his final start in Ireland, he took a significant step forward from trial one to two at this track. Tricky heat but he has plenty of ability.
Makeitpaddington - Frank Grey - Makeit Syndicate - Grangeview Ten X Makeit Posh - Jul 23
Has had plenty of trials here but only two races, ending up in trouble in the first and then beaten at 4/6 in the second. Needs a massive step up on that.
March On Freddie - David Mullins - Mr G Watson - Dorotas Wildcat X Seaglass Shadow - Sep 22
Looked a monster when winning the Puppy Classic at Nottingham last summer, following up with a run to the semis of the Irish Derby. Well suited to the stamina demands of this.
Missile One - Seamus Cahill - Mr D Walsh, Mr V Walsh - Broadstrand Bono X Conquering Queen - Sep 22
Made the final of the Olympic in December and stopped the clock in 29 dead in his first race here. Not so good the last twice but he has that solid backform.
Never Say No - Seamus Cahill - Sharp Lads - Droopys Sydney X Ballinakill Biddy - Jan 22
Consistent performer who stays well at Hove. Dipped under 29 seconds on his way to the final of a supporting competition on final night last year after exiting the Derby in the third round.
Newinn Benni - Derek Knight - Rinn Prem OCL Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Newinn Cuckoo - Apr 22
Winner of the Sussex Cup last summer, he is yet to show his very best away from his home track, although that is from very limited chances. Needs to do better than he showed in his trial here.
Newinn Deejay - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Droopys Sydney X Newinn Cuckoo - Apr 22
Showed consistent form here over the last couple of months. Looks well capable of making it through some early rounds here but it will get tougher fast for him.
Nine Percent - Richard Rees - Legacy Syndicate - Broadstrand Bono X Droopys Miriam - May 22
Got his head in front in a trial stake last month, albeit not in a time that suggests he can win a Derby. He stays well so he might sneak though a round or two.
No Better Feelin - Esther Driver - Iffy Trap - Ballymac Cashout X Art Of Illusion - Sep 22
Runner-up in the Puppy Classic Final last summer to March On Freddie. He has strong times on his card around the country but could have done with a kinder box in his heat.
One Slick Jamie - Paul Marchant - Mr M Jee, Mr P Marchant - Broadstrand Bono X Swift Magnetic - Sep 22
Was a winner at Hove on his UK debut, producing a decent time in a recent trial here. Form in Ireland was decent enough to think that he might make it through a round or two.
Optic Pharaoh - Tom Heilbron - Mr K Glen - Dorotas Wildcat X Muffin - Feb 23
Made the semis of the Maiden Derby, knocked out by the pair who finished first and second in the final. Starts his Derby campaign in a tough enough heat.
Outdoor Charlie - Craig Morris - Mr A Tarpley, Mr J Tarpley, Mr J Tarpley - Magical Bale X Outdoor Roller - Aug 23
Is a better performer now than when he was last seen in race action at this track, visually impressive when he has got it right of late at Yarmouth. Tricky heat but he’ll have plenty of room in which to operate out wide.
Pain Barrier - Brendan Matthews - Mr B Matthews - Ballymac Bolger X Dolce Vita - May 23
Made the final of the Kirby recently at Limerick. Will surely improve on his 29.34 first look at the track but is going to have to given that he has been given a heat that contains a pair of 2024 finalists.
Phoenix Charlie - Diane Henry - Mr K Boothby - Ballymac Best X Lemon Ariana - Jan 23
Unraced in the UK after showing some fair form in Ireland. Needs to make a big step up on his trial runs.
Prince Naseem - Maxine Locke - Miss K Bergin - Droopys Sydney X Razldazl Annie - Mar 22
Has moved well in a pair of sprint trials since arriving with Maxine Locke. Found early trouble in the second round of the Irish Derby that saw his challenge end, going to need more.
Proper Heiress - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Droopys Sydney X Powerful Mush - Sep 22
Looked an excellent recruit last year but has taken that to new levels so far in 2025. The winner of the Winter Derby, Kent Plate and Juvenile, he has the gears to overcome any draw. It would be a huge surprise if he is not right there at the business end of the Derby.
Quill Quids - Esther Driver - Mr P Sallis - Droopys Sydney X Ballymac Beanie - May 23
Has found life tough since breaking his open race duck at Nottingham in February. Making the second round given his opening heat would be a great showing for him.
Racenight Ivan - Allison Kelly-Pilgrim - Mr I Pilgrim - Ballymac Cashout X Dunquin Anna - Apr 23
Romford raider has wins at that track over 575m and at Nottingham over 480m on his resume but nothing that suggests he can play a leading role here.
Rackethall Brute - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Confident Rankin X Taylor Kate - Apr 23
Strong finisher has been timing his runs to perfection in trial stakes, rattling off a hat-trick of wins. Runner-up in the PGR Puppy Derby Final, he could easily be the type to keep on progressing.
Randolph Scotts - Peter Cronin - Big Bus Syndicate - Brett Lee X Oioi Upenalty - Sep 22
Runner-up in the Easter Cup Final gets no rest from taking on the very best as he has been drawn in with Proper Heiress in the opening round. Is a very smart performer himself, however, who looks set for a deep run.
Rapido Ali - Patrick Browne - Mr D Heard - Kinloch Brae X Vancouver - Nov 22
Made a couple of Cat One semis last year and trialled well at this track last week. A repeat of that could see him through a couple of rounds.
Riverside Pingu - Graham Holland - Miss R Holland - Newinn Taylor - Riverside Honey - Nov 21
Knocked out in the heats last year but arrives much fresher than he did 12 months back. Tricky enough opening heat so others are preferred.
Roanna Twostroke - Pamela Cross - Miss H Mean - Malachi - Roanna Bess - Mar 23
Made the semis of the Maiden Derby but was turned over in an A2 back at Yarmouth last time. That suggests that he will struggle.
Romeo Command - Patrick Janssens - Mr D Firmager - Dorotas Wildcat X Drive On Betsy - Jan 21
Veteran was runner-up in the competition in 2023. Has already made the Blue Riband and the BGBF Breeders Stakes deciders this year. There would be no more popular winner but it’s probably heart over head to think that he could do so.
Romeo Empire - Patrick Janssens - Mr D Firmager - Romeo Magico X Fabulous Bella - Feb 23
Didn’t win a race in Ireland but he emerged on the scene with a bang at Central Park just after Christmas with a 28.80 win on his UK debut. Made the final of the BGBF British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham and won a trial stake here. Has to be a big player.
Romeo Steel - Patrick Janssens - Mr D Firmager - Ballymac Cashout X Fabulous Amalfi - Aug 22
Was a touch frustrating in 2024 but he has matured into a machine in 2025, breaking Nottingham’s 305m track record and producing efforts with much more consistency. 500m around Towcester is far enough for him but the brute early speed will always give him a chance.
Romeo Tomcat - Patrick Janssens - Mr D Firmager - Dorotas Wildcat X Fabulous Spirit - June 23
Filled the runner-up spot in all three rounds of the Gymcrack and beat both Ballymac Kobe and Rackethall Brute at Monmore ahead of the Puppy Derby. Fascinating runner who could keep finding a way through.
Salacres Senan - Peter Harnden - Mr P Harnden, Mr M Pierrepoint, Mr L Pitman - Ballymac Kingdom X Ballymac Diva - Jul 22
500m here stretches him but he has shown some excellent early pace to lead up decent fields in trial stakes. Is going to need more of that with a tough heat to overcome.
Salacres Slick - Peter Harnden - Mr F Ellison, Mr P Harnden, Mr L Pitman, Mr L Zivkovic - Ballymac Cooper X Ballymac Merkle - Jul 22
Made the semis of the Derby last year so he is more than capable. Has not been in the same form so far in 2025 so needs a revival.
Salacres Tipster - Peter Harnden - Mr P Harnden, Mr M Pierrepoint, Mr L Pitman - Ballymac Cashout X Jaytee Pearl - Jul 22
Justified short odds to win an A2 last time out here. Was knocked out in the first round of the Derby last year but he won an invitational on final night. Has drawn a tough heat though.
Savana Control - Diane Henry - Mr K Boothby - Romeo Recruit X Fabulous Verona - Oct 22
Winner of the recent BGBF British Breeders Stakes. Not a regular winner by any means but he got it right on the day. It will be tougher to pull that off again here.
Savana Merapi - Diane Henry - Miss D Henry - Adeles Duke X Savana Volcano - Mar 23
Twice a Cat One finalist this year in the Puppy Cup at Oxford and the BGBF British Breeders Stakes. Outside of British Bred company is going to make this an awful lot tougher for him.
Savana Mongys - Diane Henry - Mr K Boothby - Roxholme Olaf X Banter Breeze - Oct 22
Solid enough performer in Ireland, she produced her best run when stepped up to six bends at Waterford. Trials here have been solid but this is a big step up in class.
Scooby Pacemaker - Richard Rees - Mr S Noble - Droopys Sydney X Scooby Princess - Jan 22
Exited the Maiden Derby at the semi-final stage, he went back to his home track of Hove to produce an impressive success. Has a tough enough opening heat which tempers confidence for a long run.
Scooby The Boss - Nathan Hunt - Mr S Noble - Ballymac Bolger X Scooby Princess - Nov 22
Kent Plate finalist arrives off the back of a pair of wins at Monmore. Picked up Armagh Daithi in a race here in January, that's solid form so it would be no surprise if he gets though a few rounds here.
Singalong Molly - Pat Buckley - Mr G Anderson - Dorotas Wildcat X Blundel Bridie - Sep 22
A close runner-up in the recent Shelbourne 600, doing some strong work at the end of her races. That suggests Towcester will suit her well enough for all that she enters her opening heat without a prior look.
Skirk Joshua - Kevin Boon - Mr K Boon - Ballymac Bolger Kiwi Kaye - Jul 23
Picked up a maiden open win here in March but has been struggling a little in deeper company since. Seems an unlikely winner on what is in the form book but does have the occasional smash break in the locker.
Slick Sentinel - Patrick Janssens - Mr K Allsop - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Alice - Aug 22
Winner of the Juvenile Classic here last July, he was then runner-up to Table Toppers in the Blue Riband. Has been kept fresh for this and with his all-around pace, he might be a tough type to keep out of the first three.
Slingshot Sam - Brian Fairbairn - Mr C Armstrong - Droopys Sydney X Burgess Madam - Dec 21
Runner-up to Wicky Ned in the Northern Flat last year, he is capable of some exceptional times at Newcastle. Moved well in a Towcester trial at the end of April, there are worse 200/1 shots out there.
Slingshot Shaz - Brian Fairbairn - Mr C Armstrong, Mr B Fairbairn - Ballymac Cashout X Ballymac Cams - Oct 22
Kicked off her career with a fourth in an unraced stake at Cork. The three there that beat her in the final were Droopys Plunge, Savana Control and Callaway Knegare. She has taken well to both Sunderland and Newcastle since arriving in the UK. Both of Brian Fairbairn's warrant plenty of respect at huge prices.
Sole Mio - Patrick Cronin - Mr A Comerford Snr - Coolavanny Hoffa X Palermo - Jun 23
Finished runner-up in the Kirby when last seen in race action, producing a string of consistent efforts through the competition. A sprint trial here was solid enough and has a chance to go though a few rounds here.
Soul Choice - Paul Marchant - Mr P Marchant - Ballymac Bolger X Mydras Kim - Nov 22
A winner at Newbridge and Kilkenny, he has managed to find a soft opening heat. Third in both UK starts so far at Hove, needs far more than that but should be in the second round hat.
Start The Mixer - Frank Gray - Makeit Syndicate - Coolavanny Hoffa X An Cailin Alainn - May 23
Shaped with plenty of promise in the Maiden Derby, making the semis. Trap one in his opening round heat look fraught with danger given that he has run out of the middle traps so far.
Sunnyside Broxi - Ted Soppitt - Mr A Tait - Ballymac Cooper X Ballymac Arminta - Jul 22
A finalist last year and he returned to Towcester with a smart trial. Has drawn a tricky enough heat that contains another finalist from 2024 but he should make his presence felt in the competition overall again.
Swift Depot - John Mullins - Mr C Mason - Malachi X Swift Causeway - Jun 22
An East Anglian Derby finalist last year at his home track of Yarmouth. He has been a little in and out at this venue of late and has landed in a difficult heat.
Swift Underwater - John Lambe - Mr R Chadwick, Mr J Hewitt - Pestana X Swift Bach - Jan 23
A triple Cat One semi-finalist last year, things have been a little tougher for him in open company so far in 2025. Lacks a look here and is in a trappy enough heat to pass him over.
Swords Don - Graham Holland - Mrs B Lowndes - Droopys Sydney X Droopys Alice - Aug 22
Has serious early when he gets it right, taking a very smart scalp in Seven Beach at Cork in late March. Has a win in a trial stake and a sub 4 sectional in a trial so has enough about him to get though a couple of rounds if things drop right.
Swords Hero - Patrick Browne - Mrs J Browne - Droopys Sydney X Rural Aloha - Sep 22
A Champion 550 finalist at Shelbourne last May, he has plenty of solid form in Ireland but has been handed a rough opening heat drawn between Romeo Empire and Ballyamc Lucia.
Table Toppers - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Droopys Sydney X Dolce Vita - Jul 22
The Blue Riband winner back in January runs this track better than anywhere else. He was a finalist in the Kent Plate recently but should enjoy being back at Towcester. Has a tough enough heat but there is plenty of class and a deep run would be no surprise.
Teddie - Belinda Green - Mr K Barry, Mr B Boyle, Mr D Jones, Mr G Whittington - Ballymac Cashout X Cloncunny Peecee - Apr 23
Strong stayer already dipped under 29 seconds here in a supporting race on the TV Trophy final card. A little unlucky to miss out on a final slot in the Brighton Belle, she's a nice bitch in the making but a round or two might be the best that she can hope for.
Teejays Chelms - Paul Young - Mr L Harris, Mr T Nichols - Ballymac Cashout X Mystical Luna - Dec 22
Cost plenty of money at the pre-Derby sales at the track, flying round in a couple of recent sprint looks. Solid enough over 500m on his most recent trial but has found himself in one of the trickiest heats in the first round on Thursday.
Thats It Jack - Dean Blackbird - Mr R Bailey, Mr D Blackbird - Malachi X Clongeel Mills - Sep 22
Found trouble in his heat of the Maiden Derby, quickly giving connections some compensation with a fluent Sunderland win. Hard to know how good he could be at this stage, he made the third round of the Irish Derby in November.
The Other Boss - Carol Weatherall - Born Wild Syndicate - Ballymac Bolger X Scooby Princess - Nov 22
Is more than capable of setting the sand ablaze, 28.81 and 28.90 wins at this track in December. That level of form could see him make a run at a triple-figure price but he needs to find that level again and is in a heat with the 2024 Derby winner.
Tiffield Tarquin - Roy Peckham - Mr W McColl, Mr J McColl - Broadstrand Bono X Swift Acoustic - Dece 22
Owned by 96-year-old William McColl, it would be a special story if he were able to go deep. He made the final of the Juvenile Classic last summer here and was the quickest in the opening round of the Laurels recently at Perry Barr. The natural ability is there, he just needs a little luck in running.
Toolmaker Quick - Jason Gray - Robin Hood Racing - Droopys Buick X Droopys Saab - Mar 23
A semi-finalist in the Northern Puppy Derby, he skated clear in an invitational event on the night of the final. Has raced just once since but has laid down a marker with a pair of very smart trial times here. If he can bring that into race company, he'd have a shot at a deep run.
Tricky Wiggles - Robert Holt - Mr R Holt - Droopys Sydney X Mary Goodnight - Jun 22
A Birmingham Cup finalist last year, he made the semis of the Eclipse later on in 2024. A strong stayer, he was only five lengths adrift of Wicky Ned on his return to racing in March. The ability is there to get through a few rounds but he has been given a tough task in his heat with serious speed around him.
Uncle Freddie - Richard Rees - Kangaroo Patrol - Burgess Bucks X Burgess Helena - Feb 22
Chased home Yorkie Ollie in a trial stake here, clocking a more than respectable 29.25. He was a Sussex Cup finalist last year as well as making the semis of the Kent Plate and Kent Derby. Has not been given an easy start but he is a talented tracker.
Untold Dollar - David Byrne - Untold Racing Syndicate - Newinn Dollar X Glenegat Mildred - Aug 22
Winner of the PGR Puppy Derby in 2024, he made the quarter-final stage of the Irish Derby. A heat that contains a pair of the 2024 finalists would not have been the start to this competition that connections would have been hoping for but he is a class act and a run to the second half of the competition would be no surprise.
Untold Ruble - Tom Heilbron - Mr K Heilbron, Mr T Heilbron, Mr J Jefferson - Droopys Sydney X Carrigmore Dizzy - Jul 22
Has the occasional airborne run in her locker as when beating Proper Heiress in a heat of the Blue Riband earlier on in the year. She has early pace that could take her deep if she can find the pick of her form again but a recent run and trial here have not close to her best.
Untold Rufiyaa - David Byrne - Untold Racing Syndicate - Droopys Sydney X Queen Lilly - Jan 23
The National Puppy winner at Shelbourne in December, he made the semis of the Romford Puppy Cup when he was with Tom Heilbron who told the Greyhound Star before he made his debut that this was a serious youngster. Has a couple of very smart types in his heat but has the class to overcome that and make a serious dent in this competition.
Up The Game - John Spolander - Mr J Spolander - Dromana Bucko X Footfield Leia - Sep 22
In winning form at Sheffield of late but that level is a bit short of what is going to be required to even get out of his first round heat.
Val Tashadelek - Graham Holland - Mr L Dunne - Dorotas Wildcat X Tic Tock Lizzy - Oct 22
Ran riot from the red jacket in the semis of the Maiden Derby. Looks a nice recruit and given his draw, he looks set for a strong campaign in this year's Derby.
Vhagar - Mark Wallis - MWD Partnership - Dorotas Wildcat X Limini - Feb 23
A Hunt Cup semi-finalist but she had to miss the rest of that competition. She is a strong stayer and smacks of the type who could keep just sneaking through in third. Interesting one at a big price.
Wicky Ned - Jimmy Fenwick - Mr N McGregor - Droopys Sydney X Ballycowen Lucy - Aug 22
Seems to blow a little hot and cold here. A first round defeat last year and was never in the race in the Juvenile but his win on Derby final night last year was nothing short of spectacular. If he can harness that all the way through, he would be a leading player.
Winscale Wonder - Roy Peckham - Mr P Lithgow - Magical Bale X Agile Dorotas - Dec 22
Third in his semi-final of the English Puppy Derby here last November. Has had very limited action since, winning a race here in March. Has a tough opening heat but the class is there to make an impact.
Wrighty - John Mullins - Mr J Wright, Mr J Wright - Out Of Ranger X Swift Acoustic - Aug 21
What a super dog! Has answered every call in his career and made a string of finals. Looks unlikely to be good enough to win a Derby but he is capable of making a run into the latter stages granted some luck.
Zenith Quincy - Richard Rees - Mr V Cooper, Mr B Nadir - Malachi X Love Island - Jan 23
Well suited by an extended four bends in Ireland and showed up well with a 29.19 trial at the end of April. Has a rough starting slot in his first round heat but is a nice recruit for the kennel even if this competition is too tough at this stage.
