Icemans Girl, who was second in the Empress Stakes over this C&D last September, set the standard in the heats with a 28.92 victory. Fabulous Aria looked to have that race in safe keeping when pacing up into a healthy lead, but Nathan Hunt’s bitch flew home to get up in the dying strides for a head success.

Icemans Girl clearly loves it at Towcester and she is the favourite to build on that course refresher by following up in the decider, with 5/4 the best available and she’s as short as 8/11.

However, this may be more competitive than the betting suggests and Fabulous Aria has the early speed to really stretch them out again.

As does Chamberlain Kate, who made all in 29.27 last weekend and she is expected to come on for that first competitive start since December. The downside for Carol Weatherall’s railer could be being moved off the fence and switched to trap three.

Lilys Bullet was a huge eye-catcher when a one-and-a-half-length second that qualifier, as she was left with a mountain to climb after a slow start and traffic problems. She absolutely flew home and was in front not long after the line, but she may be seen to best effect over six bends these days.

The same could be said of Coppice Ella, but there was a lot to like about the way she gave Gucci Detail a start and a beating when winning her heat in 29.12. That was only her second start of the year and further improvement would put her in the picture with a nice make-up as the sole wide seed.

What Chamberlain Kate does out of the boxes could decide this, with the favourite, Icemans Girl, potentially being hampered if the former heads fore the rails in the white jacket. That scenario would give Fabulous Aria plenty of room to show her early pace from trap four.

Icemans Girl is versatile and is a worthy favourite if able to secure a clear passage, although that could be a big ‘if’. Look out for Lilys Bullet and Coppice Ella staying on in this competitive contest.
