Fenwick looking for a third straight Gymcrack

Andrew Mascarenhas, Sheffield's director of racing, said he was happy enough in terms of numbers received for the heats of the Bet St George Gymcrack.

The Category One puppy event kicks off with six heats at the Owlerton Stadium on Sunday afternoon and the track received 34 entries, just two shy of the requisite number for the £17,500-to-the-winner showpiece.

"We've got to be happy enough," said Mascarenhas.

"We were just two short of the 36, but there's clearly plenty of quality on show.

"Maxine Locke has entered her Monmore Puppy Derby runner-up Droopys Script and it's always good to see Jimmy Fenwick represented in the Gymcrack - he's won it for the past two years!

"Jimmy has his Newcastle Puppy Derby champion winner Woltemade back for the Gymcrack, while Patrick Janssens and Mark Wallis are also represented. "There's also some pups in there making their UK debuts who all have solid Irish form."
