Luka is simply Magical again

Magical Luka booked his place in the Coral Romford Puppy Cup semi-finals with another dazzling display on Friday night.

The October 2023 son of King Sheeran and Magical Mary continues to take the greyhound racing world by storm and has now won all 11 of his races as he ran riot again in the semi-finals.

Kevin Hutton’s runner stepped left from trap five but showed his brute early speed once he straightened up and quickly opened a healthy lead to turn in front.

The 2/13 favourite continued to pull further clear and crossed the line seven lengths ahead of March On Luna in a standard-setting 23.43.

Droopys Alldeway put a defeat in the heats behind him by making all in the second semi-final.

The Paul Young-trained dog started much better on the rails this week and his early pace ensured he was first to the corner as things got a little messy in behind.

He continued to blaze a trail and stopped the clock at 24.03 in scoring by five lengths from Aero Najem, who did well to qualify after early crowding.

There was a bit of a turn up in the third semi-final as Scooby Diamond made all at 6/1 from 4/1 chance Underground Fizz.

Nathan Hunt’s victor won the early battle and dominated from the front to strike in 23.86, as the runner-up stayed on well to be beaten just a length at the line.

Elsewhere on the all-open race card, Hutton completed a double when his Union Rebel justified 8/11 favouritism by posting 23.91 in a half-length success from Bombay Zero.

Crafty Alejandro (15/8jf) kicked the card off by winning the sprint in 13.35 for Mark Wallis, while Katie O’Flaherty got on the scoresheet when Carmelfromcanew scored over 400m in 24.12.

Newinn Souly produced a demolition job in a pleasing 23.74 when scoring by seven and a half lengths at 15/8, before Racenight Mikey (6/4fav) won the 575m maiden for Maxine Locke in 35.66 and Belinda Green’s Gary The Arb (8/11fav) won by six lengths over the same trip in 35.49.

The Paul Burr-trained Tally Ho Socks sprang an 8/1 surprise with his 400m victory in 23.99, while Richie Taberner ended the night with a 575m winner thanks to Aero Pepinillo (15/8jf) making all with ease in 35.12.
