The Category One ARC Birmingham Cup and PGR St Leger start this evening with the semi-finals on Monday, September 15 and the finals a week later on Monday, September 22.
The four-bend Birmingham Cup run over the 480-metre trip began life as a kennel sweepstakes race in 1938 and was then inaugurated as an open race the following year at the old Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium until that venue closed in 1984. The event was then moved to the new Perry Barr venue and was held annually from 1992-1997 over the 500-metre distance and more recently from 1997-2024 over 480 metres.
Previous sponsors have included Ansells Brewery, Tony Campbell, William Hill, M.Lambe Construction and Stan James Bookmakers. Notable previous winners include Fear Zafonic in 2009, Brookside Richie in 2023 and Rioja Bungle last year for Kevin Hutton.

Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger outright betting market
The Category One Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger, run over the six-bend 730 metre trip, gets underway this evening and, although disappointingly low on numbers the top of the betting market is filled with the best stayers in the country.

The outright betting market has the Mark Wallis-trained Mongys Wild as the favourite, with Fabulous Heka next in. The pair clashed in the Select Stayers over course and distance two weeks ago, with the Patrick Janssens-trained Fabulous Heka coming out on top that day.
