The Select Stakes is one of the most prestigious events on the greyhound racing calendar.

Six of the best four-bend performers are chosen by the Greyhound Writers Association and then run against each other in a one-off invitation race over the 500-metre trip at the Colwick Park venue Nottingham with £12,500 on offer to the winner.

The runners for the 2025 Select Stakes will be picked on Wednesday, August 20 with the draw taking place the following day.

Nottingham Greyhound Stadium is located at Colwick Park, and is a premier venue in the East Midlands, just two miles from the city centre.

It offers a top-quality restaurant, three bars and ample viewing areas, making it ideal for spectators.

This invitation-only race, inaugurated in 1952 at Wembley Stadium, moving to Nottinghgam in 1997 after Wembley's greyhound racing closed. Previous sponsors include Courage, Fosters, Victor Chandler, Ladbrokes, Betfred, RPGTV and JenningsBet.

Previous winners include Some Picture (1996), Sonic Flight (2001), Roxholme Girl (2005), Barnfield On Air (2008), Dorotas Wildcat (2017) and Clona Duke in 2023 for Irish trainer Graham Holland.

In 2013, a memorable dead-heat occurred with Holdem Spy and Daddy Knowsbest sharing the honours in a winning time of 29.67.

The biggest priced winner of the invitation race was Living Trial, who won at 66s for trainer John Honeysett.

Back in 2000, Rapid Ranger started as the 6/5 favourite for the Ladbrokes Select Stakes but went down by a neck to Rackethall Jet, who took the race at 7s in 30.45.

Last year, on Monday, August 26, Romeo Command from the Patrick Janssens kennel lined up as the 5/2 favourtie, but it was Irish raider Unanimouspanther who trapped well and made all from T5 for trainer Pat Buckley. Chelms Bear stayed on to take second from T2 with Untold Dollar back in third from T1. The winner clocked 29,31 following a 5.21 sectional.
