Liam Aspin, kennelhand for Mark Wallis is looking to raise more money for charity with an Irish Derby sweepstake on the back of a similar successful competition organised for the StarSports/TRC English Greyhound Derby
Aspin took to social media platform X at the end of April, and for £10 per dog, people had the chance to have their name drawn against a dog totally at random for their duration of the Derby, with all finalists receiving a share of the prize pool. This kind of online engagement highlights how the greyhound racing UK community continues to find new ways to support local charities and organisations.
Ahead of their Open Day on Sunday 20th July, the Mildenhall & Wisbech Greyhound Trust received a windfall of £640, a mixture of the money raised from each entry, donations from the greyhound community and from the prize winners who generously donated some of their winnings to the charity pot.
On the back of that, Aspin has received enough initial interest in order to organise a similar competition for the BoyleSports Irish Derby which starts at Shelbourne Park next Friday August 22
The rules are simple. For £10, you will be allocated a greyhound for the Derby, and if you reach the final, you will receive prizemoney, the higher you finish, the more you can win! Below is a list of the winners from the StarSports/TRC English Greyhound Derby back in June
