Betting update – Arena Racing Company Puppy Classic

Following on from the first-round heats of the ARC Puppy Classic, let’s take a look at the betting market ahead of the semi-finals which take place on Monday, August 18.

Patrick Janssens goes into the semi-finals holding a strong hand according to the bookmakers, with Romeo Alliance and Romeo Ability first and third in the outright market. The Kevin Hutton-trained middle seed Kranky Drake is second in the market following his win in the first-round heats.

Arc Puppy Classic Outright (best prices)

Romeo Alliance 5/4, Kranky Drake 3, Romeo Ability 7/2, Aghaburren Ben 20, Santas Amigo 22, Droopys Poker 25, Droopys Alldeway 28, Bouncing Monarch 33, Cooladerrydancer 50, Whisky Elsa 80, Zenith Jimbombom 100, Zenith Kindy 100

The first semi-final of the 2025 Arc Puppy Classic at 8.19 on Monday, August 18, will see JR Racing Juvenile winner Romeo Alliance line up from T4 with Kranky Drake in T6. A couple of weeks back, on Monday, August 4, the pair were separated by just a length, with Drake catching the eye in defeat showing impressive middle gears. Can Romeo Alliance trap well and make all again or will Kranky Drake ping out from T6 and lead round? All eyes on the break here in a highly competitive heat of the Arc Puppy Classic at Nottingham.

The second semi-final at 8.36 will see Romeo Ability run from T3 looking to record another quick away-made all success over the 500-metre trip at the Colwick Road venue, Nottingham. There's plenty of early pace on the rails here so the Patrick Janssens-trained October 2023 son of Romeo Magico can't afford a tardy exit. Aghaburren Ben is a 20s chance for outright honours and will be looking to qualify for next week's £12,500 to the winner Category One final from T4. Santas Amigo is available at 22s with bet365 and William Hills. If he brings his trapping boots and hits the back straight on the bunny, it’ll take a good one to back run him.
