Betting update – Premier Greyhound Racing Regency and Coral Sussex Cup 

Following on from the first-round heats of both competitions, let’s take a look at the betting markets ahead of the semi-finals that take place on Saturday. 

We start with the Category One Premier Greyhound Racing Regency run over the six-bend 695-metre trip at the south coast venue.  

Mongys Wild heads the market at 6/5 with William Hill. The Mark Wallis-trained superstar will come on loads for his first-round victory from off the pace and looks like the one they all have to beat. Kennelmate Vhagar is 9/2 with Hills but only 7/2 with Ladbrokes and Coral. Vhagar is in an ultra-competitive semi-final with Romeo Empire on her inside, Empire can be backed at 11/2 with Bresbet. Garfiney Blaze was back to something like his best in the first-round heats and is next in at 8s with Bombay Nutty available at 12s. 

Speaking to George Smith from Coral he said this about the Regency: “Saturday's PGR Regency heats didn’t throw up many surprises with a Mark Wallis 4-timer and 5 of the 6 favs obliging. Ivy Hill Cherry was the only surprise of the round, winning at 16/1 and clocking the 2nd fastest time behind Garfiney Blaze who looks as if he has put that Sheffield run behind him and is now a 6/1 shot from 12s before the first round with a great chance of qualifying. Semi-final 2 looks the most competitive with Romeo Empire and Vhagar looking to battle it out early for the lead and will have plenty running on to try and catch the pair. Mongys Wild looks a good thing in the last semi as usual and could add another final to his name.’’

Sussex Cup betting update

The Mark Wallis-trained Proper Heiress heads the market of the Category One Coral Sussex Cup with £10,000 up for grabs to the winner of the competitions outright.  

George Smith of sponsors Coral said this about the first-round heats and the upcoming semi-finals of the competition: “The Sussex Cup threw up a lot of surprises with a pair of 33/1 winners in the opening heat as Ower Mystery and Dazl Hermes held off strong opposition. Proper Heiress looked back to his best, winning well and clocking the fastest time, and in with King Memphis and Romeo Tomcat in the opening semi, it looks to be a race worthy of the final and is now priced at 11/8 for the comp.

The second semi looks to be a good draw for last year's winner Newinn Benni who can qualify with Ballymac Kobe for the final. Slick Sentinel was impressive as ever in the heats and goes into the last semi with a race packed with quality and will have to be quick out the boxes as will have a lot of these running on his tail.’’
