Dave Jolly, Head of Trading at Star Sports, said: “We’ve been with Bockos Diamond since the start of the Star Sports Greyhound Derby and there’s been little evidence to change our mind since.
“Bockos still leads the betting at 11/10 as the outright favourite from trap six ahead of Saturday’s final having won all but one of his five races".
“Our outright book looks to be in good shape, and we’ve put ourselves in a nice position to lay all in what should be a fantastic final with both De Lahdedah and Cheap Sandwiches the main dangers at 7/2 and 4/1 respectively.”
Star Sports – Greyhounds – The Star Sports Greyhound Derby
Bockos Diamond 11/10, De Lahdedah 7/2, Cheap Sandwiches 4/1, Sole Mio 11/2, Droopys Plunge 12/1, Bombay Pat 14/1
William Hill were the first of the bookmakers to price up all 15 races at Towcester on Saturday, and Senior Greyhound Odds Compiler Derek Hope has reported plenty of interest the Derby Final along with the supporting card.
“I went 5/4 on Faypoint Harvey and that’s been smashed into 4/7 now. I was impressed with Moving Force when it ran at Hove, but maybe I’ve overrated that slightly or maybe punters haven’t latched onto the fact that this looks to be a nice dog, but I suppose when you look at the form, Faypoint Harvey has ran against Derby class dogs and Moving Force hasn’t and it’s a step up in class”
“That’s the one the majority of the money has been for, but we’ve seen a good amount of business across the other races and I’m glad that we were first to price up all the races. There’s been some money going about for Faypoint Susie in the 6.01pm who is now at Evens and Ballymac Kobe has been popular at 10/1 in the 6.35”
“I found the hardest race to price was the Romeo Empire race at 7.10pm but interestingly, we’ve not taken a penny for Romeo Empire at all at 1/2 . That tells me that either the price is right, or people don’t know what price he should be because I don’t even know what price he should be! He has a similar profile to Barntick Bear who won over the 712m last year but as of yet, we’ve not seen a penny for him”
Hope also reports plenty of money in the Distance Specials market with two runners in particular well backed.
“Mongys Wild in the Dorando Marathon has been extremely popular at 7/4 to win by over 8 lengths. I set it like that as I didn’t want to go 4/5 5 lengths, I wanted to try and get the punters in but at least give myself a chance of winning and I think I’ve done so with the odds and distance set”
“The other one we’ve seen good money for in the distance betting is Vhagar in the 8.57pm. She’s been popular at 2/1 to win by over 3 lengths as she’s 4/6 to win outright”
As for the Derby Final itself, Hope reports that Hills saw money for Droopys Plunge after the trap draw was made on Monday.
“We were 1/3 odds for 2 places initially but we will only be 1/4 the odds on Saturday which allows us to have a better trading strategy if we want to be competitive, and he was the first dog that I laid, so we went from 18/1 into 12/1 with plenty of each way support"
.
“In my outright book, I’ve only got one loser which is Bockos Diamond and that’s not for fortunes, It’s definitely tradeable out but if it wins it’ll be a loser. In the non runner no bet book this week my three losers are Droopys Plunge, Bombay Pat and De Lahdedah. I’ve managed to lay all six in the book and I think there will be a lot of money flying about on Saturday”.
“I don’t think that on the day, the live punters, the punters who are clued up, will want to back Bockos Diamond. But I do think there will be plenty of people out there wanting to back him because of his name and the fact it’s the Derby favourite"
"I’ve not seen anything at all in the week to suggest that he could go massively odds on, the 4/6-4/7 mark. I’ve been Evens all week and he’s a winner in my book this week, so if he’s going to be massively odds on, I think I would have been odds on myself by now”.
