BGBF British Bred Oaks kicks off at Oxford

The BGBF British Bred Oaks gets underway with four heats at Oxford on Saturday night.

24 runners line up for the the Category Two competition over 450m, with the semi-finals on Saturday 9th August and the £3,000-to-the-winner decider taking place a week later.

Kevin Hutton has a strong hand in the first heat with Union Piper, who has impressed in A1 victories here on his last two starts, and Signet Nayla , who has chased home her prolific kennelmate Start The Engine in C&D opens on the two previous Saturday evenings.

Bang On Edith, a semi-finalist in the British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham earlier in the year, goes in trap one.

Hutton is also double-handed in heat two courtesy of local A1 performer Union Blizzard and Coppice Lottie, who has been mixing in good open-race company here of late.

Phil Milner sends down Snowfall from his Yorkshire base and the Doncaster A1 winner is expected to improve for a 27.41 (calculated) trial on Tuesday.

Heat three is arguably the most competitive and Patrick Browne has three representatives in the shape of Dreamin Dot, recent Hove A2 winner Coppice Esme and Shes One Eighty, who narrowly missed out in an open here last Saturday,

A heat winner in the BGBF Truframe Champion Stakes at Towcester last month, Signet Morgan makes her return to action and Heather Dimmock’s bitch moved well (26.86) in a trial here last weekend.

Union Rose was turned over at short odds when third in a Perry Barr open last Saturday but John Hall’s runner should come on for that first start since December.

Dreamin Francis failed her bid for a four-timer over this track and trip last week but Kevin Hutton’s charge is still likely to prove popular with the punters in heat four.

Hutton is also represented by Miss Kubelik, who hasn’t raced since January but posted a pleasing 26.79 (calculated) trial here last Friday and has a nice make-up as the sole wide seed.

There are five supporting opens on the card, including two divisions of both the BetGoodwin Oxford Standard and the BetGoodwin Oxford Maiden. There is also the BetGoodwin Oxford Stayers over 650m and racing gets underway at 6.04pm.
