Bockos busts his Nottingham rivals once more
Although there were only four opens at Nottingham on Monday night, the quality of the winners was excellent, including Bockos Buster in a flying sprint success.
Bockos busts out a sub 17.50 Nottingham win
Bockos Buster has taken a real liking to Nottingham over the last month and a half. Kevin Boon's adaptable type produced a 17.48 run last night, a time that was bettered on just three occasions through the entirety of 2025, twice by Romeo Steel (one of which was his track record breaking run) and the other by Ballinakill Liam.
It is rarified air, even on a fast running track, and this is a dog who has made Category One finals over 450 and 462m, so he is far from just a sprinter. Hopefully 2026 is the year that he gains a win at the top level, not only as it would be great to see Boon have another winner of a Cat One, but for Bockos Buster himself who has already achieved plenty in a career that spans less than 30 starts.
Another who has taken well to the track is Da Don who landed the other sprint on the card. He had been behind Bockos Buster the week before and without that rival in opposition, it cleared the way for him to get his head back in front. He is 3/5 in this country for Mark Russell after winning just one in eight in Ireland.
His time of 17.59 measures up well with the top sprinters in the country and the Russell kennel are more than capable with the speedsters as they showed with Magical Bluebear, taking out the 2024 Silver Salver for William.
There were also two races over the 500m trip with Lynn Cook's Wakawaka Eh Eh going in again in the first of them. She has come back revitalised from a break, unbeaten in four starts, clocking 29.40 last night. That suggests that she is more than capable of taking on the best when they come to Nottingham later on in the year.
The other contest went to Skeard Daisy May. Barry Denby's bitch has hit the ground running for him, winning three of her five starts at this track, including a pair of opens. She didn't have her first race until the end of November, losing her puppy status at the end of last month. A half-sister to Coral Coronation Cup finalist Teddie, there should be more to come from her.
