Bookem and Gucci top market for Stewards Cup spoils

Steel City Cup closes to entries on Wednesday

HEAT winners Droopys Bookem and Witton Gucci top the market with the sponsors for the SIS Star Sports Stewards Cup heading into this weekend's semi-finals of the 590m event, the former Walthamstow annual.

Elevated to Category One status this year, the first at the north east venue, Saturday's heats saw local trainer Glenn Foot notch a hat-trick and his Witton Gucci is joint-favourite for outright honours along with St Leger semi-finalist and last year's Derby semi-finalist Droopys Bookem.

Meanwhile, Star Pelaw reminds trainers that the SIS British Bred Trophy, a Category Two, starts this Saturday also. Entries close on Wednesday at noon with heats of the 18-runner contest this weekend and the £3,000 final on Saturday, October 10, supporting the Stewards Cup final.

Heats of the Grand National, another Category One event, take place on October 17, with the semis on October 24 and the £10,000 final on Saturday, October 31. Entries for the 24-runner jumpers' Classic close at noon on Wednesday, October  14.

*SHEFFIELD reminds trainers that the BetGoodwin Steel City Cup over 500m closes to entries at noon on Wednesday.

For 36 runners, the Category One event starts on Sunday, with the semis a week later, and the £12,500 final on Sunday, October 18.
