Three Nottingham opens on Monday
Born Racer was the pick of the three winners on Monday night at Nottingham. Carol Weatherall's sprinter is a very smart type on his day, and the return to the red jacket was no concern for him as he paced up the inside impressively after only a moderate getaway. He is now 2/3 when he has been drawn in one at this venue, his only defeat coming in the opening round of the National Sprint when he was behind Bockos Buster.
The other sprint on the evening was won by Frank Macklin's Emers Summer. It is the third track that she has scored at in open race company, following on from Yarmouth and Suffolk Downs. She was the quickest into stride and that was enough to see her go on a score in a race where trouble behind her at the opening bend befell most of her rivals. It was a third win in her last four starts, following on from a pair of top grade successes.
A 500m race went to Esther Driver and Stellas Incharge. She had kicked off her career in an A6 back on the first day of May, winning in that grade as well as A5, A4 and A3 on her way up the ladder. This was her breakthrough at open class level, producing a smart 5.04 split to get her head in front early on. Her career-best sectional unsurprisingly produced her career-best finish time and as a September 24 puppy with only 11 starts under her belt, those bests could well be usurped in the coming weeks.
