BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby betting update

The first-round draw of the 2025 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby took place on Monday, August 18, at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium in Dublin. 

A total of 144 greyhounds were entered into the draw, which was conducted at midday and broadcast live across social media. The field consists of 98 railers, 15 middle seeds and 31 wides. The first-round heats take place on Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23. Four qualify from each heat for the second round, which will consist of 96 runners.

Reigning champion Bockos Diamond, trained by Graham Holland, is a standout contender and goes in heat five from T6. Kennelmate Cheap Sandwiches is now a general 18s chance, out from 12s last week.

Other notable runners include Callaway Knegare (16s), who finished third in 2024, and Bombay Pat (16s), who was a finalist in the Star Sports / TRC English Greyhound Derby at Towcester in mid-June. Droopys Patriot, a recent Bar One Irish Sprint Cup runner-up, has entered calculations at 20s. He's lightly raced and open to improvement and could attract support at those type of odds. 2024 English Derby winner De Lahdedah is available at a standout 40s with Pricedup. That looks solid value for those looking at each way options with firms going six places and a quarter the odds.

Droopys Patriot is on offer at 11/10 from T2 in heat three and defending champion Bockos Diamond 2/5 to take heat five at 8.32 on Friday evening.
