BresBet Steel City Cup
The hotly anticipated BresBet Steel City Cup starts on Sunday, October 5. Heats are worth £500 to the winner in the first-round with semi-final winners receiving £700. The £11,500 to the winner Category One event will be run over the four-bend 500-metre trip at the Owlerton stadium over the next three Sundays as seen below via the official Sheffield Greyhound Stadium X account.
Elusivenomore will line up on Sunday looking to claim the Category One competition and £10,000 bonus from sponsors BresBet.
Speaking to Chris Oliver of Greyhound News UK earlier this week co-owner of Elusivenomore Dave Lawrence, said: “He’s a genuine dog who will give his all be his Achilles’ heel is he’s not the greatest trapper, but he’s got exceptional pace to the bend.
“The Steel City Cup would be a lovely competition to win. Obviously, to win the bonus would be nice, but just to win the Steel City Cup would be fantastic. I’m looking forward to it.’’
BresBet, a bookmaker based in Sheffield paid out £40,000 to Wicky Ned in 2024 with the Jimmy Fenwick-trained railer landing the Gymcrack and Steel City Cup double. Having already claimed £17,500 for winning the Gymcrack back in April Elusivenomore will bid to land the Steel City Cup and goes into the competition with leading claims as he chases the lucrative bonus from the sponsors BresBet.
The Steel City Cup is held annually at the Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield. Inaugurated in 1970, the Category One event has seen notable winners over the years, including Boherna On Air in 2007, Bandicoot Tipoki in 2009 and Roxholme Nidge going back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. Last year Wicky Ned was sent off as the 8/11 favourite and backers were to sweat with Links Maverick setting a scorching pace following a flying 4.09 sectional. Wicky Ned challenged at the third bend and led near the line to record a short head victory.

Entries for the 2025 Steel City Cup at Sheffield closed today at midday, with Carl Perry of the sponsors BresBet saying: “We’ll be quick out the traps to price up the event. We always try to be competitive and aggressive with our prices and punters will see that later this week.’’
