BresBet Steel City Cup final betting update
Following on from the semi-finals of the BresBet Steel City Cup, let’s take a look at the draw for the Category One final and how the sponsors have priced up the race which will take place on Sunday, October 19.

Chelms Bear 4/5, Romeo Steel 2, Romeo Ability 5, Bouncing Monarch 16, Timmys Hunter 25, Romeo Missile 80.
Trading Manager Sam Tweed from sponsors BresBet said: “We did a video preview with Andrew Mascherenhas (Director of Racing) & Rob Crawford (Track commentator) this week and we all agreed that if you were to grade the race, the only change we’d maybe make would be to swap traps 1 & 2 around, so from a draw perspective, I think it looks pretty fair, and we should see a great race.’’
Speaking about the semi-finals, which took place on Sunday, October 12, Sam went onto say: “The semi-finals of the BresBet Steel City Cup never really looked like betting propositions, with two very short priced favourites obliging in the first two semis. The third race was the exception, and it looked on paper to be the most competitive, until Chelms Bear led by a length out of the traps.’’
Sam added: “I was racing manager at Sheffield for the best part of 10 years before moving into the gambling industry, and I said last week that Chelms Bear was the best bend runner I've ever seen there. I've seen plenty of track records go at Sheffield, but none in such fashion.’’
Looking ahead to the Category One Steel City Cup final on Sunday, October 19, which will see the winner collect £11, 500, Sam said: “We priced up the final immediately after the draw, and others may not have been as impressed with Bear as I was, as we saw plenty of support for Romeo Steel (5/2 into 2/1).
“Chelms Bear was our main liability before the draw, but he now stands as a winner in the book, with Steel a significant loser. We saw plenty of support each way for Bouncing Monarch before last Sunday's semis, and the young pup looks to have a bright future, already reaching his second Category One final.
“We have Romeo Ability running for the BresBet bonus too, which was available to any greyhound who made the final of the BresBet Gymcrack earlier this year. We know too well how costly these bonuses can be, with Wicky Ned superbly landing the double last year.
“While prices suggest the main protagonists are on the inside, we shouldn't overlook the wide runners. Timmys Hunter seems to be enjoying his time at Sheffield, and with 4 railers, he could well be best positioned should any trouble take place. Connections of Romeo Missile should also be proud. Kelly Hodson managed to train 4 greyhounds to reach the semi-finals, and he rightly takes his place on Sunday, his second Category One final at the venue, after reaching the British Bred Derby final last December.
Finally, Sam added: “It's a great final, with 6 worthy finalists, and we wish the best of luck to all connections.’’
