British Performance of the Week - 16 February 2026

It was an excellent week of action around Britain with the semi-finals of three Category One competitions across the last seven days at Monmore and Newcastle.

Another win for Mongys Wild

Monmore on Saturday night saw a string of very smart performances in the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket and Winter Derby. The pick of them once more was Mongys Wild who wove his way through his rivals from the back to land another success. He has an immense trackcraft to go with his natural talent and the pair combine to make him one of the most watchable greyhounds in recent years.

There was nothing to split Ballymac Buddy and Ballymac Service on the clock in their semi-finals wins in the Arena Racing Company Northern Puppy Derby on Thursday night at Newcastle. The final is set to be an absolute corker with just a few spots back to the third semi-final winner. It is a strong field lining up and it should be an excellent race to revisit through the year.

Towcester has been a very happy hunting ground for King Memphis through his career and even more so over the last few months. He was in flying form there on Sunday to make it 5/5 since he was beaten favourite in the final of the 2024 Derby. Even as a veteran, he would still lay down strong claims to at least a strong run through the competition one more time this summer.

Good Acclaim will be no stranger to mentions in this column if the start of his career is anything to go by. He has proven to be an exceptionally quick sprinter, winning the award for a slick display at Nottingham on Monday night. Not content with that, he went to Dunstall Park on Saturday, winning an open in an excellent time there as well to double up on the week. Not bad for a greyhound with just the four starts in his career.

It was another excellent week for the sprinters, Dashaway Daisy living up to her name as she came clear from an early stage at Romford on Friday night. She was just picked up on the line a week ago by Nightingale Crew and a couple of spots quicker meant that she was not in any trouble to maintain her lead on this occasion.

Star Pelaw has been an excellent source of wins for Sunnyside Ted early on in his career, picking up a fourth at the track from just five starts on Saturday night. He was two spots shy of the quickest clock that he has stopped but ended up 13 spots in front on the pick of his calculated times.

The Liz McNair team added to their win at Towcester with one at Central Park from King Presley. He is a standing dish at the Kent track, picking up a slew of wins last year and was not far off his career best on his first start at the track in 2026. One of four finalists for 2025 Sprinter of the Year, he is off to a smart start on the clock this year as well.

Suffolk Downs saw their usual Tuesday opens and for the second week in a row it was Darren Whitton's Moaning Hearns who got the job done as the pick of the week. He is a perfect 3/3 over the 220m distance this year but there is no standard sprint for him to grab another win in this column tomorrow night.

Romeo Steel gave Patrick Janssens something to smile about at Sheffield on Sunday as his sole winner on the card. He has an exceptional record around Owlerton, including winning the final of the BresBet Steel City Cup back in October. Since the start of March last year he has 25 wins from 33 starts.

It is starting to become difficult to find something new to write about Alright Twinkle who claimed yet another POW at Oxford. She has hit a red-hot seam of form early in the new year, and connections will continue to send her out to pick up these races for as long as she is running at a similar level.

Another who has excellent form at a certain track is Slingshot Poppy, this time at Sunderland. She picked up her sixth win from seven visits last Friday night. It was a huge shame that she missed out on the final of the Premier Greyhound Racing Classic when suffering her only defeat there but her fastest of the year in the consolation race the following week was spectacular. She didn't need to go as quick last week but she has clearly returned from a winter break in fine fettle.

Yarmouth saw a very taking display from a young pup on Saturday afternoon. On just the second start of his career, Droopys Assured produced a sub 27.50 time, 22 spots quicker than Kereight Fraud on the same card, a bitch who has been a regular in this column. A half-brother to Droopys Patriot and Bowmers Wildcat, he should have a nice future.

Blackstone Opera is putting together a decent run of form for Seamus Cahill, winning her third straight race on Thursday night at Hove. She took a few runs to figure it out, looking unlucky on more than one occasion, and now that she has, connections are starting to see just how good their May 24 whelp could be.

There was another Valley win for Epic Evelyn on Sunday, this time over four bends. She won POW last week for her sprint open success, doubling up with another fluent display from the front. That's now seven wins in her last 10 starts.

At Doncaster there were plenty of similar times flying around but on the going and grades, it was just Ling Ling who came out on top for her top grade success on Saturday. She produced her best sectional over 450m, getting out in front to add to her open race win over the same trip from November.

Winning in bunches has often been the case for Indian Floyd and she appears to be going through a hot spell again, landing her second start within a week at Harlow over 415m. She landed four straight opens at Suffolk Downs in November and December but she has not run there since getting bogged down on -200 in mid-January.

Connections of Breakthebiscuit probably won't see their son of Good News in the same sentence as King Memphis very often but he was the second veteran to take a POW this week for his Kinsley win on Sunday.
