Woltemade takes Northern Flat title

The final of the Time Northern Flat last week saw a spectacular win for Woltemade. He already had a Northern Puppy Derby title in the bank as well as his successful run through the Harry Burton Memorial, but this felt like a coming of age for him in an all-aged Cat One final. With his kennelmate Wicky Ned leading him up, it was a success that had to be earned, digging deep for a stunning 28.01. 

The final of the Coral Regency this coming weekend looks a great opportunity for Droopys Flare to make it fourth time lucky in a Category One final. She has run into a Mark Wallis-trained winner in her prior three, including Mongys Wild on two occasions. There are few more deserving of a breakthrough at the top level than her.

When it comes to stayers, there are not many who possess what Droopys Rated does. Not only does he stay every inch of a stiff eight bends, capable of setting track records whenever he sets foot on a track, he does it with brutality from the front, pummelling his rivals into submission from the get go. His win in the first marathon held at Dunstall Park on Saturday night was another stunning example of just how dominant he is at present in the division.

There have been rather more races over Towcester's 460m than Dunstall Park's 925m, but it is still a relatively new distance. Forgottotellya became the latest to set new figures for the trip with a success on Sunday afternoon, taking nine spots off the recored set by Start The Engine in early June.

His unbeaten record over six bends was extended by Zenith Pasha on Saturday night at Monmore, continuing to impress by how seamlessly he has transitioned to the longer distance. His middle pace is blowing his opponents away, and while there will be tougher tasks to come once the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers gets underway, it feels like he will take it all in his stride. 

It is a little bit longer to wait for the start of the Click Competitions East Anglian Derby but Droopys Buck was a very impressive winner of the first trial stake at Yarmouth at the weekend. There has only been one quicker time this year over 462m and just seven last year, of which three were track record holder Romeo Steel. 

Dave Lee has taken the Central Park award plenty over the last few months, primarily with the superb Brunch Pal. This week it was kennelmate Untold Ariary who claimed the top spot as she dipped below 29 seconds on her first race at the track. She has won 12 of her 22 career starts to this point. 

Another to pick up win number 12 last week was Mad For Cash who has been in sparkling form over Romford's 575m. Two thirds of those wins have come here and connections will be hoping that she can maintain this level of form ahead of the Champion Stakes in the autumn having had no luck when being brought down in the opening round of the Coronation Cup last month.

The fastest sprint time at Doncaster this year belongs to Blow Out after Saturday night's win. She has now won five of her last eight starts, finishing second in the other three, producing that level of consistency at both Doncaster and at Sheffield. Unbeaten in three starts at Donny, with all of those winning times in the top 10 of the year, she is giving connections a huge amount of fun. 

Star Pelaw saw a fastest of the year tied as Sunnyside Gurkha set the same 25.34 that he had a fortnight ago. He has found a rich vein of form of late, with this his fourth win on the bounce at the track. His sectional was actually his slowest of those four so he might still be capable of going a few spots quicker. 

Another who has a swathe of the top times at a track this year is Savanaregimental. He has been dominant over Sheffield's 660m distance for a while now, with only a defeat to Glenrock Pat in his last seven over the trip. Boasting the quickest time of the year, he is in front of a pair of Droopys Flare runs which show just how well this track suits him.

It has been an excellent start to life with Jason Gray for Jackierua who followed up a pair of graded wins with an open race success at Nottingham last Monday night. Those are the only three starts that he has made for Gray, improving with each of them. There should still be plenty more to come from him.

There was a career-best run from Romeo Dutch at Sunderland on Friday night, pinging out and leading home a one-two-three for Tom Heilbron in a 450m final. It was a time that was a single spot outside the top 25 of the year for a dog who was having just the 15th start  of his career.

Kinsley saw just the second sub 16-second time of the year in a sprint with Holborn Betty taking those plaudits. The track has been lightning quick there in recent weeks but even with the going allowance added on, she has only ever gone quicker once in her career when taking a D1 last September. 

Epic Evelyn is a semi regular winner of this award at the Valley, landing it for the fifth time in 2026. She has taken the award for wins over both two and four bends, with a sprint on this occasion getting her the honour. This was the top performance of her career.

It was also a sprint that saw the top run at Harlow. It was a first win over two bends since early February for Rileys Daughter who has picked up four wins over 415m at this track as well as a pair of 388m opens at Suffolk Downs in the meantime.
