Burton heads out on the open scene

Mike Burton and his team are to go it alone on the open-race circuit in 2026.

The Gloucester-based former rugby union star, a leading owner and breeder for many years, has been attached to Valley since taking out his trainer’s licence, but is to become an unattached trainer from January 1, 2026, and will be concentrating fully on his team of open-race greyhounds.

The trainer of such talented trackers as Droopys Aladdin, Droopys Suprstar and Outa The Clouds said: “We will be open racing at Valley in the future but we can’t commit to the graded schedule there, so it just makes sense. It’s all on good terms.

“They’re great people at Valley and I look forward to going back there in the future, especially with what I consider a very nice team coming back from winter rest and being aimed at some important races in 2026.”
