Cahill takes the headlines at Hove

Seamus Cahill landed four of the 11 opens at Hove on Thursday evening, including with Kelvins Hat in the Coral 500 Standard Trophy final.

Newinn Benni was sent off the 4/7 favourite for the decider but the Sussex Cup champion couldn’t clear Kelvins Hat round the opening bends and it was the latter who entered the back straight in front.

Newinn Benni put the winner under serious pressure but Kelvins Hat showed great determination to repel that challenge and hold on by a neck from Ower Cracker, who nicked second late on, in 29.42.

Unthinkable justified 4/11 favouritism for Cahill in the Coral Summertime 695 Maiden Stayers, as he powered home to beat Dawncourt Dolly by three lengths in 42.33.

His kennelmate Moving Force took the second heat of the Coral 515 Trophy with ease from Uncle Freddie and One Slick Jamie in 30.14.

March On Freddie (8/15fav) went much quicker in the first heat with a facile 29.78 success, as Queen Shakira and Rapido Ali chased home the Dave Mullins-trained winner to also qualify for the final.

Cahill initiated his four-timer in the first heat of the Coral 285 Maiden Sprint courtesy of Curtin Raiser, who held Ower Girl Ziggy by a head to score in 16.67.

Gemma Byford’s Emmas Bee sprang a 6/1 surprise when touching off 1/6 chance Robbies Glory to land the second heat in an identical time of 16.67.

Zenith Magic (9/4) overcame traffic problems to collar Coppice Esme by a short head when landing the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy final in 29.88

That was the second winner of the night for Richard Rees, who had already got on the scoresheet with Clona Kody (31) as he battled back to beat Droopys Dialogue by three-quarters of a length (29.68) in the Coral Summertime 500 Standard.

Done Me Dosh made all in 29.72 in the Coral Summertime 500 Maidens for Belinda Green, who also struck with Barbie Bullet at a huge 33/1 in the Coral Summertime 695 Stayers (41.95).

Broadway Murty (4/5fav) completed a C&D double when dominating the Coral Summertime 285 Sprint in 16.18.
