Cheap Sandwiches Cut for Greyhound Derby Glory with sponsors BOYLE Sports
Draw serves up star-studded semi-final
Cheap Sandwiches has seen his price cut in half from 5/2 to 5/4 by the sponsors to win the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby ahead of this weekend’s semi-finals.
Graham Holland’s contender dished up the performance of the night last weekend, clocking a sizzling 29.27 to snap up the opening quarter-final heat ahead of Droopys Deploy and Callaway Five.
Proper Heiress is rated his main danger in the betting as 4/1 second favourite after a hard fought victory in his heat kept alive hopes of a first UK-trained winner of the Irish Greyhound Derby since 1997.
A third win on the spin for Magical Mag means she has shortened dramatically in the market to 7/1 (from 20/1), while the other quarter-final heat winner, Ballyhooly Bruno, remains among the outsiders at 33/1.
A mouthwatering clash now awaits Shelbourne Park spectators on Saturday with the top three in the outright betting all crammed into the opening semi-final heat. Cheap Sandwiches heads the market at a piping-hot 4/6, but sparks are expected to fly from the traps with Proper Heiress (3/1) and Ballymac Stud (4/1) lining up in the same contest.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “The first semi-final heat in particular looks like an absolute cracker and while all eyes are on Cheap Sandwiches and Proper Heiress, this year’s renewal has already shown that there’s plenty of room for surprises.”
