Irish Performance of the week

The top run last week at all 17 Irish Greyhound Tracks

Only one place that we can start and that is at Shelbourne where the semi-finals of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby saw Cheap Sandwiches land a spot in the final for the second straight year. He had to make do with a runner-up finish in 2024 behind his kennelmate Bockos Diamond but he heads the market this time around to make it third time luck in a Derby final.

There was a new track record for the 525y distance at Dundalk where Hackney Tango took seven spots off the mark set by Swanley Chick in August 2020. It was his first run since being knocked out the Irish Derby in the second round, having finished just three and a half lengths behind Cheap Sandwiches in the opening one. Six of his seven prior wins had all come at Curraheen Park.

Speaking of Curraheen, it was Barefoot On Fire who took the plaudits there. The Laurels kicks off on October 11 at the track and this will give connections plenty of confidence if that is the way that they want to head with him. He only made it to the second round in 2024 but is fresher this time around having made the final of the Irish St Leger prior to the Laurels last year.

There have been plenty of quick times at Tralee this year, added to by an impressive run from Sallagh Larry. The pup has only had six starts in his life, winning four of them. His litter brother Venetian Mick is with Kevin Hutton, and has run into Droopys Plunge in both starts since breaking his open race maiden at Towcester.

Saorlaith was on the list a couple of weeks back after an impressive sprint success at Lifford. She added a Drumbo Park award to her tally last week, the only '24 whelp on the list. She has plenty of size about her, topping the scales at 78lbs (35.5kg) at her heaviest, a positively trim 75 when scoring last week!
