Romford heads list of Friday abandonments

Romford has switched the heats of the Coral Coronation Cup and the Coral Guys & Dolls to Monday morning after Friday's card at the London Road venue was cancelled due to the hot weather.

"Temperatures are still predicted to be too high to race and we also have to consider trainers and greyhounds making the journey to the track," said Romford racing manager Mark Arkell.

"Welfare is paramount, so the Coronation Cup and Guys & Dolls heats will now be staged here on Monday.

"We're effectively replacing Monday's card with Friday's - and the semis as scheduled as normal for Friday week (July 3)," added Arkell.

"Temperatures will certainly be lower next week with rain also forecast."

Meanwhile, Towcester has also cancelled Friday's card but are confident its Saturday and Sunday cards will go ahead as scheduled.

A spokesperson for the track said: "Due to the forecast high temperatures tomorrow throughout the day Friday afternoons race meeting has been cancelled. The Friday card will likely form the basis of the card for Tuesday (June 30).

"Saturday's race meeting should go ahead as planned as the temperatures are looking to drop to comfortably below the GBGB Hot Weather Policy threshold. "The welfare of all of our greyhounds is paramount alongside our staff, trainers and their staff as well."

Kinsley has also cancelled Friday's meeting.

The morning meeting at Hove is set to go ahead on Friday, as are the afternoon fixtures at Newcastle and Valley. Evening cards on Friday will be hosted by Nottingham, Sheffield, Sunderland and Star Pelaw.

Sunderland's card features the finals of the Arena Racing Company Puppy Trophy BGBF British Bred Puppy Cup, two Category Two events.
