Deadly Disco takes the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy at Hove
Deadly Disco took the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy final at Hove on Thursday, August 28, one of three winners on the night from the Richard Rees kennel. Starting as the 1/3 favourite, Deadly Disco hit the front at the fifth bend and powered clear to record a five and a half-length victory in 42.22 with Join In (T1) back in second and Ower Smasher (T4) in third. Deadly Disco starts and stays, he looks like a proper competition dog for all the major six-bend events in the coming months.
The Coral Winner Of One 500 Trophy final at 8.07 went to the Heather Dimmock-trained Droopys Stat making all from T3 in 29.48 at 7/2. Betting Buddies finished second but was three and a quarter lengths behind the impressive winner. Race favourite Broadway Shay (T4) was back in third. Droopys Stat showed nice pace into the corner and kicked for home down the back straight and stayed on in taking fashion, an very pleasing run from the October 2023 youngster, he looks a top class prospect for the Locke team.
A little earlier on, three heats of the Coral Maiden Trophy took place over the four-bend 500-metre trip at the Nevill Road circuit Hove. Mellish (T5) took the first heat at 6.08 at 11/2 in 29.86 with Deadly Ruben (T4) in second. Mellish led round and it was never in danger for those that took the 11/2 on offer. Heat two at 6.26 went to Bright Bono in 29.69 at 9/4 with Battle Stones (T1) in second at 7/2. Bono led at the thoird bend and powered clear. Race favourite Harlequin Jaytee (T6) finished third following a bump at the first bend.
Heat three at 6.42 saw the Richard Rees-trained Zenith Imminent (T4) take the race in 29.74 at 5/4 with Razldazl Beau (T6) in second for Maxine Locke. Beau showed nice early pace and led to the third bend, he could be a Romford type and is worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks. Zenith Imminent stayed on powerfully and impressed on English debut. The May 2023 son of Ballmac Wild has some top Irish form on his card and looks a nice prospect for the Richard Rees kennel.

Three heats of the Coral 500 Standard Trophy also took place, with the first at 7.16. Racenight Mickey trapped well from T6 and made all for trainer Maxine Locke, recording 29.41 to reward those that took the 6s on offer with bookmakers. Zenith Sultan finished second from T1. Heat two at 7.33 went to Moving Force for Seamus Cahill from T5 in 29.51 at 5/2 with Crossfield Roger in second from T1 at 12s. The third heat at 7.49 saw an impressive quick-away-made-all success from Bowmers Wildcat from T5 in 29.26. Those that took the 5/4 on offer never had a moments doubt as the August 2023 son of Dorotas Wildcat bolted up. Zenith Aslan ran well to grab second from T1 but couldn’t land a blow on the winner.
The National Greyhound Week 695 Stayers open race at 6.59 saw half a length separate the first four home with Glenmavis getting the nod from the judge in a photo finish. Innfield Fifi (T5) led round but Glenmavis was always within striking distance, and she nipped up the inside to land the race on the line with Fifi beaten a head and Rules For Some a head further back in third from T2. Coffee Time Guys (T4) caught the eye, staying on for fourth and could be worth noting for next time out.

The National Greyhound Week 285 Sprint open race at 8.41 went to Sevenofdiamonds from T1 in 16.44 at 7/4 with Dereks Champ second at 4/7 from T2. Crossfield Zach took third from T4 a further four lengths back.
The second of the National Greyhound Week Sprint opens at 9.16 saw Broadway Murty line up from T1 at 4/7 with Beaming Isla in T2 at 10/3. Uncle Ned from T6 pinged the lids and took the race by just over three lengths in 16.25 with Savana Ferguson grabbing second from T5. Odds-on favourite Murty took third with Isla fourth.
The National Greyhound Week 695 Maiden Stayers open race at 8.59 looked a match between Soul Choice (T2) at 10/11 and Zenith Angel (T1) at 5/4 and that’s exactly how the race went with the pair finishing first and second with Zenith Angel taking the race by four and three-quarter lengths in 41.61. Lightly raced Magical Kirsty (T4) attempted to make all from T4 but was caught at the sixth bend. That was her first attempt over the trip, and she will come on plenty for the run.
