Doubles for Cahill and Janssens at Towcester on Sunday
11 open races at Towcester on Sunday saw doubles landed for the Seamus Cahill and Patrick Janssens kennels.
At 2.16 in the JR Racing Puppy Trophy heat one, Romeo Ability (T1) from the Janssens kennel showed nice pace into the corner following a moderate break and went onto beat Rogue Duo (T2) by just over two lengths in 29.43.
A little later on, kennelmate Romeo Alliance (T3) took the second heat, causing an upset by beating odds-on favourtite Headford Asher, who finished second. Romeo Alliance recorded 29.20 and rewarded those that took the 11/4 on offer from bookmakers.
Heat three of the JR Racing Puppy Trophy saw a huge shock with Droopys Poker (T4) beating Vermithor (T2) in 29.11. The winner was a 33/1 chance, with the runner-up available at 25, and the forecast paid a huge £349.11 and the tricast £1508.93. Well done to those who found that one!
At 3.11 it was all eyes on Mongys Wild (T4) when the Mark Wallis-trained superstar lined up from T1 in the Towcester Stayers open race over the 712-metre trip. Mongys Wild turned last but was only three lengths off the pace. By the third bend, he had moved into second and the writing was on the wall for the race leader, Lamorna Lexi, who ran from T2. Mongys Wild hit the front off the fourth bend and skipped six and a half lengths clear of the chasing pack. Mongys Wild was sent off as the 1/14 favourite for the race and backers of the Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket winner never had a moment of concern.
Elsewhere on the card, Hove raider Moving Force (6/5) showed nice pace to take the Towcester Standard for Seamus Cahill at 2.33., while the Peter Harnden-trained Salacres Brendan (T5) landed the Towcester Maiden at 3.49 at a huge 25/1. The second maiden at 5.03 went to Maggies Bombastic at 20/1 in trap-to-line fashion, and it was another bumper payday for those that found the forecast & tricast with these huge dividends of £149.44 and £446.86, respectively.
Division two of the Towcester Standard at 4.26 was won in impressive fashion by Hove raider Kevins Rockets, who ran from T2. The Seamus Cahill-trained September 22 son of Broadstrand Bono pinged the lids and made all in 28.97, with the result was never in doubt for those that snapped up the 4/7 on offer from track bookmakers.
Chamberlain Kate won the Allied Site Services Bitches Trophy 500m, making all in 29.27 for trainer Carol Weatherall. Heat two at 4.44 was a closely contested affair with just a head separating Icemans Girl (T2) and Fabulous Aria (T4) at the finish. It was a victory for the Nathan Hunt kennel, with Icemans Girl coming out on top in a photo finish. Heat three at 5.21 wrapped up an excellent card, and it was the Kevin Hutton-trained Coppice Ella who took this race from T6 in 29.12. The April '22 daughter of Droopys Sydney challenged leader Gucci Details (T5) down the back straight and then hit the front at the third bend, before powering clear for a one-and-half-length victory.
Davy Double At Sheffield
The Owlerton Stadium 480 at 2.49 and the Owlerton Stadium Stayers at 3.09 both went to the Sean Davy kennel.
Good Knick (T2) cleared Droopys Extragud (T1) at the lid-rise and used his rails draw to drive up the inside of leader Getup Me Lad (T3), before hitting the front down the back straight. Once on the bunny, the December '22 son of Signet Ace powered clear and it never looked in doubt for those that took the 8/11 on offer.
The Owlerton Stadium Stayers over 660m was all over bar the shouting at start, when odds-on favourite (5/6f) Very Elegant (T3) pinged out and led off the second bend on his way to winning well. Loxleys Forest (T1) closed the gap down to just under four lengths at the winning line.
Double Landed For Watson At Star Pelaw
