For anyone who is unfamiliar with how the process works for these two one off races, trainers have to enter their runners to the Nottingham Racing office by 1pm on Friday. The GWA (Greyhound Writers Association) will choose the six runners for eace race on Wednesday August 20th, and the trap draws will be made on Thursday August 21st, with both races being ran at Nottingham on Monday August 25th.

The Arena Racing Company Select Stakes to be run over 500m is worth £12,500 to the winner while the Arena Racing Company Select Stayers is to be run over 730m and is worth £2,500 to the winner

Unanimouspanther landed the spoils for Pat Buckley last year when defeating Chelms Bear in the Select Stakes, while the Select Stayers went the way of local trainer Jill Llewellin as Vale Bluebell landed a bit of a surprise when scoring at 8/1.

Headlining the entries for the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes will be the 2025 StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby winner Droopys Plunge. The Patrick Janssens trained champion hasn’t had a race since his victory in the final at Towcester just over two months ago on June 14th, but has sparkled in a couple of recent workouts, especially last Monday when recording 29.16 in a solo trial over the 500m course.

Janssens is also trialling Slick Sentinel, Romeo Tomcat and Romeo Steel on Monday and are likely to be entered, as is the Craig Morris trained Chelms Bear, who finished runner up in this contest last year for Janssens behind Unanimouspanther, but also produced a decent trial on Monday when recording 29.25

Mongys Wild, the winner of three Category One competitions this year, will look to advertise his claims of being named GBGB Greyhound of the Year for 2025 if able to land the Arena Racing Company Select Stayers. Mark Wallis’s staying sensation has only lost one of his eighteen races this year, winning his last thirteen starts, the latest being in the final of the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency at Hove at the beginning of August. Janssens is likely to enter his runner Fabulous Heka, while other possible entrants are Sean Parkers Droopys Flare, who finished runner up in the Cesarewitch earlier in the year, and Loxleys Forest for local trainer Jason Gray, with both runners recording pleasing workouts in recent trials
