BGBF Puppy Cup moved to Dunstall Park

Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium has strengthened its Category One schedule by adding the BGBF British Bred Puppy Cup to its competition calendar this summer.

The UK’s newest greyhound racing venue will launch the £10,000 to the winner event on Saturday, July 4, with a sparkling finals night planned a fortnight later.

Open to 24 of the UK’s fastest homebred superstars, the competition was plunged into doubt this year amid Oxford’s closure – a venue which has hosted the Category One prize since 2023.

But Dunstall Park operator Arena Racing Company has stepped in to save one of just a handful of competitions which are open exclusively to greyhounds born and reared in the UK. As an added bonus, all finalists will receive £1,000 in prize money too.

Chris Black, General Manager at Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium, said: “I don’t think we can underestimate the importance of British breeding, and the value it brings to our sport.

“It’s critical to greyhound racing’s long-term sustainability, and has obvious benefits to those who dedicate their lives trying to unearth the next champion.

“We’re proud to step-in and ensure the British Bred Puppy Cup remains on the GBGB’s Category One calendar.“It’s been won previously by some superstar names, and we have no doubt this year will be any different.”

Finals night on Saturday, July 18, comes six days before Dunstall Park acts as the headquarters to celebrate greyhound racing’s centenary in the UK.Special guests and representatives from the sport will gather at the track’s Ringside Suite on Friday, July 24, to mark exactly 100 years since the first greyhound race was held at Belle Vue Stadium in Manchester.

Chris added: “Our centenary celebrations will cap a busy first summer at Dunstall Park.

“We have several themed race nights planned, including our first World Cup Warm Up on May 30 with local legend Steve Bull who will reflect on his incredible career.

“Two of England’s World Cup group stage fixtures will also be shown in June, and we have the BGBF British Bred Puppy Cup in the calendar now too.

“Delivering memorable experiences beyond what happens on the track was a key part of our vision when opening our doors in September, so we hope to see plenty of new faces trackside in the coming months.”

Tickets for all rounds of the BGBF British Bred Puppy Cup in July are available online now from £8 via www.dunstallpark-greyhounds.co.uk.
