Eze Scores at Swindon
Three open races at Swindon last night with two over the standard four-bend 476-metre distance plus one sprint.
The Blunsdon Maiden Sprint open race at 7.16 was won by Klassical Joey at 6/1, beating odds-on favourite Swift Oilean who finished second. Joey pinged the lids from T4 and held the inside line from Swift Oilean as they approached the first bend. Oliean then swung off wide, challenged by couldn’t reel in the winner, who went onto record 15.59.
The Blunsdon Standard open race at 7.33 looked like an ultra-competitive race with Eze (2/1), Andrea Sam (9/4) and Cul Na Braithre (3/1) all strong in the market. Baggios Intent from T3 trapped well and led round after a flashy 4.05 sectional, but the writing was on the wall once Eze paced up into the corner from T6 and drove the bend. Using excellent track craft, Eze hit the front out of the second bend and kicked for home. It was all over bar the shouting as the Angie Kibble-trained wide seed went onto land the prize in 28.13.
The six-bend Blunsdon Stayers race at 7.49 went to Invergarry in a photo finish. The Robert Short-trained wide seed trapped well and turned a handy second behind Droopys Suprstar who led round from T3. Suprstar has blistering early gears but struggles to see out this 682-metre trip. Invergarry had first crack and it was race on. By the fourth bend, Invergarry was only a couple behind Suprstar and the writing was on the wall; Those that took the 13/8 were sitting pretty. Off the final bend, Invergarry hit the front, but then Ballymac Mags (T5) and Eagles Respect (T2) entered calculations. They were both flying home. It was anyone’s race at this point, but Invergarry stuck his neck out and won by a short head, a cracking run from the October 2022 son of Kinloch Brae, 13/8 backers, go collect!
Elsewhere, on the card we saw a treble of graded winners from the Angie Kibble kennel. All Long (T4) stayed on well to take the A4 graded race at 6.42 in a winning time of 29.05. At 8.07 in an A7 race with only two runners lining up, Smokestack Pixie led off the second bend and went onto to win by over a length in 29.47. The final winner for the Kibble kennel on Tuesday evening was Eagles Dare in the A3 graded race at 9.16. The June 2022 son of Ballymac Cashout stays on well. This was all about getting a clear run. At the third bend he made his move, then used excellent track craft off the final bend to challenge between rivals and hit the front late on to land the race in 28.72.
