Field of six announced for the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes at Nottingham
The GWA (Greyhound Writers' Association) have whittled the entries down and have announced the six runners who will line up for the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes at Nottingham next Monday
Members of the GWA have spent the last few days going through all the entries for the Arena Racing Company Select stakes, and this morning, the six runners for the £12,500 to the winner contest were announced
The six who have been selected to line up in the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes are:
Droopys Plunge- Patrick Janssens
Wicky Ned- Jimmy Fenwick
Romeo Steel- Patrick Janssens
Chelms Bear- Craig Morris
Silverhill Freya- Graham Holland
Slick Sentinel- Patrick Janssens
Reserves in order of preference:
Acomb Felix- Kevin Ferguson
Romeo Tomcat- Patrick Janssens
Glengar Martha- Pat Buckley
Rackethall Brute- Mark Wallis
Jonathan Hobbs, Chairman of the GWA, this morning said:
"Many thanks to those members of the Greyhound Writers' Association who voted"
"As expected, Derby champion Droopys Plunge and Greyhound of the Year Wicky Ned were unanimous choices - and to have these two greyhounds in the Arc Select Stakes really is a tremendous boost to the 2025 running of this famous race"
"In the end, voting was clear cut in terms of the top six places - albeit members faced some tough decisions before making their choices.
Indeed, what was clear from the messages received was the love for Acomb Felix and his incredible record on the track - and that of his trainer, owner and breeder Kevin Ferguson"
"Acomb Felix came seventh in the voting so becomes first reserve - and he wouldn't be the first reserve to win the Select Stakes should the opportunity arise!"
"The same applies to Romeo Tomcat, Glengar Martha and Rackethall Brute - and Patrick (Janssens), Pat (Buckley) and Mark (Wallis) will believe they'd have every chance with their runners. These are all high-class greyhounds in their own right"
"So albeit, as ever, there's a heavy heart with some of the choices, what I would say is we have an incredible race to look forward to at Nottingham on Bank Holiday Monday."
The draw will be made on Wednesday, August 20, at Nottingham Stadium
