Seal leads tributes to former trainer Phil Blunt

Perry Barr racing manager Martin Seal has led the tributes to Phil Blunt, who sadly passed away over the weekend.

The former Coventry, Henlow and Perry Barr handler was involved in greyhound racing for much of his life and he was a well-respected figure throughout the industry.

His daughter, Emily, now holds the license and she continues Blunt’s legacy in the sport.

“Desperately sad to hear the news of Phil Blunt's passing,” said  Seal.

“Phil was a dog man, through and through, from the very grass roots of the sport, and wasn't afraid to have an opinion.

“We had a few battles as well as a few laughs along the way, but the welfare of Phil's dogs always came first, and respect with it.

“The kennel is going from strength to strength under daughter Emily's stewardship, and Phil's legacy is therefore intact. My condolences to wife Julie, Emily and the family.”

Gone To The Dogs – Live! broke the news during Saturday’s Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby semi-final show at Towcester.

Regular GTTD host Joe Coneely praised not only Blunt’s ability as a trainer, but also his likeable qualities as a person.

Coneely said: “It’s very sad news. He was a fantastic trainer.

“I’ve known Phil for many years, and he was a really nice bloke. A really top guy.

“From everyone at Gone To The Dog – Live! we send our deepest condolences to Julie, Emily, all of his family and his friends.”
