Weather issues set to continue this week

After a spate of abandonments on Saturday, including at Central Park where the Arc Cesarewitch heats were due to take place, Sunday’s programme has also been hit by snow and freezing temperatures.

Following the news that the Cesarewitch will now start on Saturday and be run across the following two Saturdays with the final now on Saturday, January 24, Yarmouth followed Saturday’s abandonment by also cancelling Sunday’s planned matinee card - and the same happened with Oxford, also unable to race this weekend due to a frozen track.

Other Sunday postponements were at Star Pelaw and Valley.

However, Doncaster, Hove, Sheffield, Sunderland and Towcester were all set to race on Sunday.

*Towcester has cancelled Monday’s trials session. A spokesman said: “With the temperature at the track forecast to be -3 tomorrow morning and not rising above zero throughout the day, the decision has been made to cancel Monday’s trials session."

*Hove has delayed the start of Monday’s trials session. A spokesman said: “Due to the cold snap we are currently enduring, the decision has been made to push back the start time for trials to midday (from 11am) for tomorrow (Monday, January 5).

“This will give us more time to prepare the track after Sunday’s racing. Kennelling will start at 10.15am instead of 9.15am.”
