Garfiney Blaze Cesarewitch withdrawal down to a dislocated toe
It has emerged that the two-time Arena Racing Company Cesarewitch champion Garfiney Blaze missed the 2026 renewal due to a dislocated toe.

Decision on the career of Garfiney Blaze to come next week
A dislocated toe suffered in a freak incident in the paddock at the kennels forced Garfiney Blaze’s withdrawal from the Arena Racing Company Cesarewitch at Central Park on Saturday - thus denying him a shot at history.
The two-time Cesarewitch champion had been due to take on Romeo Empire in a much-anticipated heat three clash at the Kent venue and hopes were high of an unprecedented and historic third straight success in the 731m annual after he had run so well in the George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial at Hove last month.
However, the brilliant and strong September 2021 son of Ballymac Anton and Ballymac Merkle might have run his last race, although a decision on that will not be made until a visit to the vet this week.
“Once we know the full extent of any damage to the surrounding tissue then we’ll make a decision,” said trainer Mark Wallis.
“I suppose it all depends how long he might be off. It was just one of those things and disappointing for us all - and we’re all just delighted Mongys Wild managed put the smile back on our faces.
“He did what he needed to do and will improve for the run I’m sure,” added the 16-time champion trainer of the multiple Category One champion and George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial third.
“That was his first competitive run since the Hove final, so he’ll improve for it.
“He had to check his run behind Shaun’s (Gresham, Ballymac Madgie) and just took a good few strides to gather himself again, but Central Park gives you a chance to do that and we know how strong he is when he gets moving.
“All’s good with him and also our runners at Romford,” added Walis of his team currently engaged in the Coral Essex Vase.
“Again you just feel they can all improve. New Destiny was definitely a tad ring-rusty but thankfully the gaps opened for her to qualify and I expect her to come on next week.
“That said, she’s in the twilight of her career, so anything really is a bonus. Sonia (Fabulous Sonique) is just such a consistent bitch and loves Romford, Newinn Deejay is underrated and very strong, while Silverhaill Adam and Table Toppers are both classy sorts when they hit their stride early.”
