The GBGB is pleased to announce a workshop for GBGB licence holders which is being held at Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield.
This one-day event is free to attend and, in response to requests from trainers, will focus on subjects associated with maintaining and enhancing the greyhound musculoskeletal system.
Our speakers are no strangers to the racing greyhound industry - we are pleased to welcome Dr Richard Payne, Dr Vicky Fraser and Dr Lawrence Steed.
Topics
Richard will spend the morning discussing “Under the bonnet – the secrets of the Greyhound’s engine”. He will explore the anatomy of the racing greyhound, how the limbs work to propel the greyhound, how the forelimb and hindlimb differ in their function, why things work so well and why they sometimes go wrong, cramping and much more, including practical hands-on sessions.
After lunch, Lawrence will explore “Effective pain management therapies’’, including considering what pain is, the side effects of pain, how to identify pain, the benefits of ‘pain scoring’, and common veterinary pain relief medications.
Vicky’s talk will focus on the importance of warming up and cooling down before racing and will include practical demonstrations of massage and stretching techniques that may be used to help maintain the canine athlete in optimal health.
