Gingers Prince lands the BetGoodwin Pall Mall

On paper, the Category One BetGoodwin Pall Mall looked like a cracker with plenty in with chances and the £10,000 to the winner Category One final didn’t disappoint, with a short head separating Gingers Prince and recent Kent Silver Salver winner Rioja Oisin at the line. 

The Kevin Hutton-trained Rioja Oisin pinged the lids, recording a blistering 3.86 sectional and hit the back straight on the bunny a length clear of Union Rebel in T6 with another length back to Gingers Prince from T1. At the third bend, Gingers Prince made his move with a brave run inside Union Rebel and set his sights on leader Riojo Oisin, who was a couple clear at this point. Off the final bend, that distance was down to just a length, and it was race on. Gingers Prince nipped up the inside of Oisin and stuck his neck out to land the Category One race in a tight photo finish. What a race!

Gingers Prince was sent off at 7s, bigger was available throughout the day. Rioja Oisin finished second as the 11/8 favourite with Union Rebel three and a half lengths back in third sent off at 7/2. The forecast paid £23.15 with the T/C paying £54.78. 

The winning time was 26.43 with the official winning distance recorded at a short head. 

Speaking to Gail May of GNUK after the race, assistant trainer Jade Browne had this to say about Gingers Prince lifting the trophy: “This is such an amazing win for everyone, owner Alan Lucas, the staff, and Andy at home. It’s such a family affair here, we are a close-knit team, and we’ve got our first Category One. We’re over the moon.’’
