Gray delighted with overall quality of Doncaster Puppy Derby
Three semi-finals at the South Yorkshire venue look competitive says racing office official

Weather could play its part in Puppy Derby semis
DONCASTER racing office official Stephen Gray is looking forward to the semi-finals of the Doncaster Puppy Derby tonight after last week's heats of the Category One event produced exactly what he expected when seeing a good entry for the 450m showpiece.
"It looked a good entry and the heats definitely didn't disappoint and, what was great to see for the track itself, is how many trainers travelled a significant distance to trial and then enter their dogs here. I do think that's a massive thumbs-up for the track."
Gray has looked at the three semi-finals for Greyhound News UK but feels the destination of the outright prize is still no clearer after last week's six heats.
"There were too many good performances from dogs who won their heats, and those beaten but still qualified, to be certain who's likely to be up there for the prize. I think we're set for three good semi-finals."
Gray sees the semi-finals as follows:
First semi: You could see Maree Shola moving to the middle, similarly Cockneys Zachery also moving middle at some point, but it does look a very good draw on paper for stripes. However I actually fancy My Twilight Zone for Tom Heilbron, who may also be well drawn outside a railer.
Second semi: The best of the three semis I'd say. It probably depends where Lady Gambet turns in the race. She's a really, really nice bitch in the making and may just have the race run to suit. However, Carrigoon Cece has a chance to lead and that might be enough for her. Big respect to Returning Storm who has the draw to go well again. The head says three, the heart says four!
Third semi: This is a pretty competitive one and likely to be won from off the front. Again there's a middle-feeling greyhound in red in Cluain Denis, but he would have every chance if holding his line over T2 and T3 to the bend. Shado Earth should not be inconvenienced by T4 and a repeat of his sectional and run last week will see him well in here. However, Frankton Grange in stripes is my suggestion as drawn.
Now, having said all that, the weather could have a major say as we all know this weekend.
