A milestone for Greyhound Homing UK

Today the 1000th retired greyhound was uploaded onto the Greyhound Homing UK website. James, racing name Please James, is a gorgeous black lad in the care of Home Run Hounds, Shenstone.

Of the 1004 (Home Run Hounds were on a roll when they uploaded James!) dogs that have gone through the site since it went live in April, 452 have been adopted.

Gail May, who leads GHUK along with Jade Dewey and Tom McMeechan said, “We’re not trying to take credit for all these homes but we’re working very closely with our partner charities and know that we are driving many potential adopters to them through our website and social media presence, as well as raising awareness of what super pets greyhounds make.”

Things have really taken off lately – at a notoriously quiet time for homing across the country in the lead up to Christmas. “Our website is getting 1,000 visitors per week. We have gone from approximately 10 specific enquiries about dogs from our site per month to 10 per week. The dogs on our adoption platform have had over 18,000 views, with 10 homing centres having over 700 views each of their dogs.

“We have now had over 13 million views of our content across Facebook, Instagram and X with 550,000 interactions and 15,000 followers. Our recently relaunched TikTok account has had 130,000 views in just 3 weeks.

“We are so proud of what we have achieved in getting these wonderful dogs more recognition and supporting the homing charities who do such amazing work. Getting more eyes onto retired greyhounds can only be a good thing.” May added.
