Magical Luka injury update

Pat Guilfoyle is hoping Magical Luka will make a full recovery from his injury setback.

The October 2023 son of King Sheeran and Magical Mary picked up an injury in the Coral Romford Puppy Cup final last month and is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

He took the greyhound world by storm by winning all his first 11 races and was brilliant in reaching that valuable decider when in the care of Kevin Hutton, including equalling the 400m track record at the Essex track.

Now back in Ireland, his owner/trainer didn’t have good news to report but he is confident his star can return to full fitness.

Guilfoyle told www.grireland.ie: “Magical Luka damaged an Achilles tendon in the Romford Puppy Cup final, presumably when leaving traps.

“His injury is obviously serious but we are confident given time he'll recover.”

Guilfoyle also had an update on Magical Luka's litter brother winner, Magical Major, who picked up on injury in the opening round of the Yvonne Barry Track Bookmaker Open 600 at Shelbourne.

Thankfully, it doesn’t look a serious one and the Irish Derby Plate winner shouldn’t be out of action for too long.

“When Major came into the pick up on Saturday night, I, like most, people feared the worst, “ added Guilfoyle.

“However, in the days since he improved massively and his veterinary inspection and x-rays showed that apart from some bad bruising and minor cuts and scars, there is no career-threatening injury which was the best news.

“With a few weeks rest, he'll be fine.”
