Guzzler grabs another success

Guzzler continues to amaze and delight connections - especially after the now senior performer completed a five-timer in an open at Hove last weekend.

A winner of 27 of his 76 races, the October 21 son of Pestana and Newinn Madam is in the form of his life for Hove trainer Belinda Green and last weekend's success in 16.34sec for the 285m trip was one of his best, says Green.

"He had a great battle with both Beaming Isla, who's a top sprinter herself for Maxine (Locke), and Paul's (Young) Funky Adz. You'd have to say both are in-form, so for Guzzler to beat them at his ripe age was certainly something, but he just seems to get better. In fact he clocked his best time for about a year, which proves that I suppose!"

Mainly kept to familiar surroundings at Hove, especially now in his senior months, Guzzler numbers wins previously at Monmore, Yarmouth, Central Park and Nottingham.

Owned by The Guzzlers UK Syndicate, a passionate group of QPR supporters headed by Tony Ryan and which includes ex-footballer-turned-manager Wally Downes.

Downes, who played for Wimbledon's 'Crazy Gang' team of the 1980s, currently manages in Gibraltar but still keeps in touch with Guzzler's races.

"We've got a WhatsApp group for the owners and always watch his races - and the WhatsApp group has been buzzing of late!

"He's definitely like a fine wine, getting better with age!"
