Icemans Girl on top form at Newcastle
The Nathan Hunt-trained Icemans Girl flew round Newcastle last night in 28.32 to the delight of her trainer.
Speaking about that sparkling trial, Nathan Hunt said: “It was a very good time. She handled the track well but didn’t come away as fast as she could. She will come on nicely for that outgoing and will head for a trial stakes race next week.’’
The £7,500 Arena Racing Company Angel of The North is the target for Icemans Girl and, based on that flying trial, she will be towards the head of the market for the Category Two competition that starts next month.
Bridefort Lady, also from the Hunt kennel, went round in 29.02 and will also be aimed at the same competition.
Hunt added: “Bridefort Lady felt her way round and will come on 20 or 30 spots for that look.’’
Another heading for the Angel of The North is Bang On Edith, who recorded 28.92 over the four-bend 480-metre trip at Newcastle last night and Hunt had this to say about the August 2022 daughter of Hiya Butt: “It was a good split. She has really good early pace and will get stronger because she hasn’t run much recently.’’
Scooby The Boss was due to travel for a trial but sadly missed out due to a cough. Nathan Hunt went on to say: "He’s OK and will trial next week if all is well. The target remains the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat.’’
Attention then turned to Untold Paanga, who recorded 16.97 over the two-bend 290-metre trip. Hunt said: “He was knocked over at Romford last time out in the Coral Coronation Cup heats, so we brought him for this trial and he went well. The Northern Flat will be his target next month, and he will be heading for a trial stakes race at Newcastle next week.’’
The Nathan Hunt kennel is in excellent form in 2025 as the recent Trainer of the Year standings highlighted. Hunt currently sit fifth in the points system used by the GBGB and has a hugely impressive strike rate of 26.5%.
