Irish Performance of the Week - 10 September 2026
We take a look over the top performances from each of the Irish racing venues from last week, naturally starting with the semis of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne.
One more win to crown Monarch?
Five rounds of the BOYLE Sports Irish Derby has seen five wins from Bouncing Monarch. He was not at his imperious best on the clock in his semi-final victory, but he showed plenty of tenacity to go around in front off what was his slowest split of the competition. It was not that he missed it, rather he didn't absolutely ping as he has in prior runs. If that is as bad as his trapping gets, connections will be full of confidence ahead of the final.
The Bar 1 Racing Irish Laurels kicks off on September 26 at Cork, with Ballymac Kamala laying down a marker in a trial stake for Liam Dowling. Winner of the Champion Stakes and an Oaks finalist, she only made the third round of the Irish Derby but she showcased her talents once more with a run that tied the second quickest of the year at Curraheen Park over 525y.
Magical Jet produced a rock-solid 28.16 at Limerick to pick up a win last week, although that time is perhaps not worth quite what it once was. There have been nine times sub 28 seconds so far this year over 525y at the venue after just six from the time College Maybe became the first to dip under that 28 barrier in 2013 to the start of this year. Despite that, a 28.16 run is still smart, and he remains a nice recruit after just 15 starts.
There was a new quickest of the year over Mullingar's 350y trip last week from Roscrea Buck in the heats of a dual distance sprint competition. In the final, he set a new quickest of the year over the 400y distance as well. The November 24 whelp has never run anywhere other than this venue but is 5/5 in his career and is a fascinating prospect.
