Irish Performance Of The Week - 12 August 2025
Both the Time Juvenile Derby and the Callaway Pro Am @ Stud Irish St Leger went to outsiders at the weekend.

Outsider winners in Ireland's major finals last weekend
Shelbourne and Limerick both saw outsiders win their major races. The Time Juvenile Derby on Friday night saw the youngest winner on the board this week with Getup The Boy picking the perfect time to get himself off the mark. He had shown plenty of ability prior to that opening success and should go on from here in 2026.
At Limerick, the surprise was Drombeg Banner who was an all the way winner of the Callaway Pro Am @ Stud Irish St Leger. It was an all the way victory for the next generation, trained by 18 year old Evan McAuliffe with the longest priced winner on record of this prestigious event.
The Bar One Irish Sprint Cup hit the semi-final stage where defending champion Broadstrand Syd led home his field to book his place in the decider. Fair Mistress and Ardnasool Jet are the only prior dual winners of a competition that dates back to 1932, so he is on the verge of entering rarified air.
A pair from a November 23 Ballymac Cashout - Ballymac India litter both made the list. Indian Mist was the top winner of the week at Galway, just nine spots off the quickest time of the year over 525y. At Newbridge it was Hamish on his race debut who took the plaudits in a time that is going to catch the eye of many.
Only two dogs have gone around the 525y at Waterford quicker so far in 2025 than Sundance Shirley. 28.41 is the same time as Seven Beach clocked in the opening round of the Select Stakes back in April, Zippy Kolbe and Scrahan Lady the two to have gone quicker.
