Irish Performance of the Week

There was one major final this week and it went to Born Racer. He did not have to repeat his semi-final performance to land the final of the Supersprint but it was still another very smart effort from the powerful black. He already marked himself down as one of the top sprinters in the country last year and backed that up in no uncertain fashion.

Another different name on top at Limerick where Faypoint Ranger went fastest in the semis of the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial. Always an outstanding competition, there have been no end of thrills and spills once more in 2025. Graham Holland's runner is just the fourth dog since the start of 2023 to breach the 28-second barrier at the track.

Faypoint Ranger is now a 4/6 chance for the final. Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It was another rapid run from Graham Holland’s Faypoint Ranger who kept his unbeaten Kirby run intact and he’s now a red-hot favourite to hold off the chasing pack and land the prize for his handler for the third time in just four years.”

The Select Stakes kicked off at Waterford with a smart performance from Seven Beach. His 28.41 is comfortably the quickest so far in 2025, kicking off the year in great fashion, landing the Tote Gold Cup at Shelbourne in February and now red-hot favourite to add the Select Stakes to his haul.

Ballyhooly Bruno won the Cork award two weeks back with a slick 575y time. He added to that at Shelbourne this week, the first to dip under 31 seconds so far this year. That is still a fair way short of the 2024 leading times but it is back-to-back top-notch performances from the son of Jacob Tashadelek who was the quickest of the year over this trip at Cork back in 2021.

The youngest on the list this week is Easy Rosie who went quickest of the year so far over 300y at Derry. It was only the sixth start of his career, winning on his only other start at the track as well. He is entered in the Star Pelaw Sales on Thursday so might well get a bit of added interest off the back of this win.
