Back-to-back winners aplenty in Ireland

There were some very smart repeat efforts in Ireland last week, with one of the most notable the win in the second round of the Christmas Oaks at Shelbourne of Ballydoyle Tina. She stopped the clock at 28.26 on a track that was subsequently marked as -20, so it was an outstanding run for a bitch having just her seventh career race.

We asked the question last week whether a drop back to A1 company and a wide-margin win would help the confidence of Bartlemy Mainoo. He backed up that win with another one, this time over 575y in a time that saw him into the top 10 times of the year at Curraheen Park over that trip.

Ballymac Gwennie comes from one of the finest bottom lines you'll find, stretching back in the Dowling name for 70 years! Her 28.13 Limerick success came in a time that only Faypoint Ranger has bettered this year in the semis and the final of the Kirby. She is another bitch who is still in single figures when it comes to volume of races, so she is going to be a huge player in big competitions in 2026.

We have mentioned it a number of times through 2025 but Tralee has seen some sparkling times this year. Crossfield Matt added another to the long list of slick runs with his Kingdom Derby semi-final success. He had flown around Shelbourne in 28.07 in late-October but had not got close to that level in three subsequent starts prior to last weekend. It was good to see him back up his Shelbourne run.
