Irish Performance of the Week - 19 August 2025
Southwind Wild won the Bar One Sprint Cup last week, we look at his run and the top performances at all of the Irish greyhound racing tracks.

Although the winning time of Southwind Wild was far from the quickest performance in the Bar One Sprint Cup, nobody connected with the son of Dorotas Wildcat will care after he landed the €20,000 first prize by a short head. He had finished behind Droopys Patriot in both his quarter-final and semi-final, picking the perfect time to reverse those positions when it really mattered.
This week sees the start of the Boylesports Irish Derby where Carrick Scholsey produced the pick of the runs over the 550y distance. It was only four spots off Randolph Scott's fastest of the year so far, though that time looks sure to be broken this weekend. It was only career start 11 for him and he is now as short as 25/1 with the sponsors for the big one.
The top staying run of the week went to Newport Pier at Limerick. It was good enough for the third quickest 750y time at the track this year, although it was a fair way short of the 41.06 that Born To Perform produced back in April. It was the first run over six bends for the veteran since April 2024 at Kilkenny when fourth to Tuono Charlie.
29.64 for 550y at Curraheen Park was a new fastest of the year. July 2023 was the last time that a quicker time that Danzig Rebel was produced over that track and trip. James Kelleher's charge has only ever run at Cork with last week's effort a career-best.
Lone Calling was another to make her mark on the quickest times of the year. Only Zippy Kolbe has gone quicker over 525y there in 2025 but what made the run all the more impressive is it was her race debut! She had looked a serious talent in her two official trials, the last of her November 23 litter to run. Her dam's second litter (by Ballymac Kingdom) are August 24 whelps and will be a highly anticipated litter.
