Irish Performance of the Week

The Sporting Press Irish Oaks got underway at Shelbourne last week where the quickest was Glengar Martha. She has already gone quicker this year but her 28.12 was enough to put her third in the overall list for the year to go along with her quickest from back in April. The dog to split her two times is Glory Lord who has made his way to the third round of the Star Sports & TRC English Greyhound Derby.

Broadstrand Syd was beaten on his return to action from almost nine months off at Cork but that did him the power of good, winning his second start in a slick 28.20. The reigning Bar Racing Irish Sprint Cup champion was missing in action since the final at Dundalk and remains very lightly raced for his career.

There were a couple of back-to-back winners including Magical Luka at the aforementioned Dundalk. Pat Guilfoyle's King Sheeran puppy has had just two career starts so far, winning both of them in impressive fashion. His 20.91 from last week is the quickest time of 2025 so far, with Broadstrand Syd setting the track record in the Irish Sprint last summer in 20.57. Just 34 spots away on his second start!

The other back-to-back winner this week could be found at Youghal in a very similar type. Double On It has also only ever had two races for a pair of wins and she took over at the top of the fastest of the year standings over 525y at Youghal. The only 2024 whelp on the list for the second week in a row, she is another seriously speedy Pestana.

Callaway Five added to the fastest of the year winners last week with his 28.62 at Kilkenny. To go with the running theme of the week, he was making just his second start in a race while doing so for Owen McKenna.
