Bar One Sprint Cup & St Leger Heat Up

Some of the fastest dogs in Ireland were in action at Dundalk last week for the opening round of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup. Broadstrand Syd is the defending champion and laid down the early marker with a run just 20 spots off his track record. It was an 11th win in 17 career starts, with three of the six defeats coming in races won by a certain Bockos Diamond!

The Callaway Pro Am @ Stud Irish St Leger also had its opening salvo with Toolmaker Josepe going quickest in the eight heats. He now has two of the three fastest times of the year over Limerick's 550y distance and with only 10 career starts, the litter brother to Droopys Kathleen should still have plenty to come.

Ballymac, Droopys & Derby Class Deliver

In 2024, the Time Juvenile Derby was won by Callaway Knegare who would go on to finish third in the Boylesports Irish Derby final. The quickest run of the opening round the year was produced by Ballymac Tibet. He was a third round casualty in a deep Star Sports & TRC English Greyhound Derby heat, with his run on Friday the fourth fastest 525y run of the year at Shelbourne.

Another notable Ballymac winner was Ballymac Kamala at Tralee. She landed the final of the Friends of Kerry Hospital A2 competition last week to add her name to the 10 quickest 525y times of 2025 for the fourth occasion.

29.18 at Mullingar is the new quickest 525y time of the year, and was produced by Droopys Roar last week. A promising early start to his career saw him chase home Yorkie Ollie in an unraced stake at Shelbourne. Things have been tougher in the main since but he showed the talent remains. He is a litter brother to the 2024 IGOBF National Puppy winner Untold Rufiyaa.
