King James in the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby third round
The third round of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby produced some more outstanding racing at Shelbourne on Saturday night where Wi Can James just went the quickest of the eight heats. Still officially a pup for his quarter-final this coming Saturday night, he is a youngster with the world at his feet at present.
Glengar Robin completed her unbeaten romp though a valuable A3 stake at Kilkenny with an eight-length demolition job in the final. She set a new fastest of the year in the decider, and is now the proud owner of the three fastest 525y clockings here in 2026. Only five dogs have gone quicker than her in the decade since Priceless Brandy set the track record.
There was a smart debut at Curraheen Park from Aghadown Jacob who was the quickest in the opening round of the Deelish Kennels unraced stake. His dam was also a useful performer at this venue, producing the fourth quickest 550y time of 2021 here as well as a top 10 time over 525y. This pup looks like being more than useful if he can build on this.
The Irish Sprint Cup is behind us now but there was another smart time last week over that 400y distance by Gizmo Mysterio. He went out at the quarter-final stage of the competition but backed up his winning time over track and trip from May with an identical one. He is not just a sprinter either with a 28.52 to his credit over Shelbourne's 525y trip.
There was a first career success for Mongys Treaty, scoring at Limerick. From the latest litter out of the dam of Mongys Wild, he has not had the smoothest start to his career, but this will have been a confidence booster for him, so it will be interesting to see if he build on this run.
