Syd's repeat bid gathers pace

The Bar Racing Irish Sprint Cup second round saw Broadstrand Syd go seven spots quicker than his opening round success. The defending champion just loves Dundalk, producing the quickest time of 2025 so far to go along with the three fastest of 2024. His litter brother Slick Sentinel will take his chance in the final of the Coral Sussex Cup at the weekend.

It was also the second round of the Time Juvenile Derby at Shelbourne, with Rural Pest the quickest winner. He had won his first round heat from off the pace, coming away far better last weekend to turn in front of his rivals and run out a fluent four-length victor.

At Limerick, yet another big competition was at the second round stage, the Callaway Pro Am @ Stud Irish St Leger.  The pick of the 550y scorers was the BetGoodwin and JR Racing Maiden Derby winner Hello Diego. The Derby quarter-finalist produced the best time of 2025 so far. A mention too for Clonbrien Treaty. The Irish St Leger winner in both 2023 and 2024 went just seven spots slower in his bid for a remarkable hat-trick of wins in the competition.

Droopys Sort had looked a nice...well...sort in a pair of defeats behind Ballymac Lake at Cork in May and June. While that bitch was busy winning her Time Juvenile Derby second round heat at Shelbourne, Droopys Sort was clocking a flying effort back at Curraheen Park. Only Broadstrand Syd has gone quicker for the 525y trip so far in 2025.

There was a ridiculous performance on the clock at Waterford from Zippy Kolbe. 28.41 was the quickest of the year, held jointly by red-hot Seven Beach and Tinahue Pappone. Zippy Kolbe went 22 spots quicker, just 25 off the track record that was set by Droopys Curio in September 2020.
